Clemson Recruiting: Biggest Busts and Gems

Jul 19, 2012, 12:43 PM

I'll start...

Biggest busts: Roscoe Crosby and Ben Hall

Biggest gem: Gaines Adams

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Bust-Willy Korn

Gem-Dantzler

2024 white level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don't think an injury should count

Jul 19, 2012, 12:54 PM

It may not be the only reason he was a bust but we will never know. Personally I think should only count as a bust if they didn't have a significant injury.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: I don't think an injury should count

Jul 19, 2012, 1:04 PM

Then Roscoe Crosby doesn't count either

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Crosby doesn't count because he had a very successful

freshman year

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

If by "bust", he means not as good as advertised, then that

Jul 19, 2012, 3:09 PM

it certainly would not apply to Crosby; as you mention, he had a great freshman year, in spite of a nagging injury. He was the real deal and proved it, but regrettably chose another route.

My Gem is Price from last year.....

Jul 19, 2012, 12:51 PM

From a Walk-On to probably our most important lineman last year and helped lead us to ACC Championship. I know others are more heralded, but I like to give the big-uglies their due.

Bust -- We've had too many to pick one. Injuries shouldn't qualify one to be a bust in my book. I'd go with Bellamy I guess, because he is gone all because of poor choices on his part.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

you're way, way off

Jul 19, 2012, 12:55 PM

Michael Carr sez hey. One of the top QBs in the country. Went AWOL. Showed up with a brand new car. Almost got us put on probation. Played maybe 50 snaps in his Clemson career.

gem: Obed Ariri. Not even recruited for football.

Totally Michael Carr

I consider a bust as someone who didn't live up

Jul 19, 2012, 12:55 PM

to thier potential. I don't put Crosby in that category. He set numerous freshman receiving records. Crappy luck derailed him.

oh, Bust= Bellamy. He did it to himself instead of

Jul 19, 2012, 12:57 PM

Gem...Price. Everyone jumped ship on LT in preseason when it was announced he was tops on the depth chart.

Jul 19, 2012, 1:21 PM [ in reply to I consider a bust as someone who didn't live up ]

he kept leaving school. how is that luck?

badge-donor-05yr.jpgringofhonor-74tiger.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Not sure many 18-20 year olds could emotionally

Jul 19, 2012, 1:48 PM

handle his situations.

He was on pace to set more than just freshman records and sprained his knee. He was ready to come back and sat out the GT game as a precaution and an OLineman broke his nose celebrating that win.

He had to have surgery on his elbow to correct a high school injury.

2002 off season: five of his childhood friends from South Carolina decided to drive down to Florida and watch him play spring ball. They never made it. According to The Sports Xchange, the driver lost control of the vehicle near Hinesville, Ga., resulting in an accident. The driver and two of the passengers died at the scene.

The following year, his brother, Nathaniel Hill, disappeared while swimming at a lake in South Carolina. Divers found his body three days later.

He held the guilt of his friend's deaths because they went to visit him.

He's had some awful luck IMO.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpgringofhonor-clemsontiger1988-110.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yeah, Dabo has been a real bust so far....

Jul 19, 2012, 1:06 PM

2 ACC-CG appearances and 1 Championship in 3 years. Why is he still here?????

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

plus the champ game he lost was forfeited by GT

Jul 19, 2012, 1:08 PM

I don't see why Dabo can't claim at least a part of that one, since they had to cheat to beat us.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Jul 19, 2012, 1:14 PM [ in reply to plus the champ game he lost was forfeited by GT ]

I'm not dissing Dabo. He is my favorite Clemson coach since Danny and the first four or five years of TB stint here.

The jury is still out on Dabo and I hope he becomes a coach to whom I can give allegiance as I have given to Danny.

Didn't mean to stab you guys in the heart there.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpgringofhonor-clemsontiger1988-110.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

We're good.....and I agree the jury is still out as he is

Jul 19, 2012, 1:19 PM

early in his tenure, but all signs as of today point to Dabo being more of a Gem than a Bust.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: plus the champ game he lost was forfeited by GT

Jul 19, 2012, 5:43 PM [ in reply to plus the champ game he lost was forfeited by GT ]

if dabo (and clemson) can't claim the victory, they should at least be considered undefeated in acccg appearances. since gt didn't get credit for the win, dabo (and clemson) shouldn't get saddled with the loss, either.

Gem: Raymond Priester
allegedly the 3rd best running back in his class (behind Downs and Pegues) and technically recruited as a possible linebacker

Bust: Billy Luckie
Supposedly the best "gunslinger" ever recruited by us. Lost the starting job to Streeter, then punched a chick at a party cuz she walked up and asked if he was Brandon Streeter.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Priester

Jul 19, 2012, 1:26 PM

If I recall correctly, Priester was actually the 4th ranked running back in that class. There was also a running back from New Jersey who was ranked higher, but I think he only lasted one year at Clemson.

Shawn Crawford

Jul 19, 2012, 2:31 PM [ in reply to Ben Hall wasnt a bust...our OL just sucked sooooo bad he ]

I hear he went on to do something else fairly well, but he didn't last too long at Clemson (I hate you Tommy Bowden, how did you not give one of the fastest men on the planted a chance to see the field, if nothing else, just to keep him on the team to see if he could become a better football player)

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Shawn Crawford made the right decision in sticking with...

Jul 19, 2012, 9:36 PM

track he had a highly successful career. Besides, he was very low on the depth chart. Having speed doesn't make you a good football player.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Ben Hall was a super talented tight end who was dreadfully

Jul 19, 2012, 3:14 PM [ in reply to Ben Hall wasnt a bust...our OL just sucked sooooo bad he ]

under-utilized while at Clemson. I can remember numerous times when he was wide open accross the middle, 20 yards downfield, waving his arms, and the QB was either sacked or was locked in on another receiver and forced an incomplete.

the most underutilized talent that i've ever seen since '77 when i first remember Tiger football. Bowden and the offensive staff wasted him in that offense in my opinion.
