Clemson issues statement after ACC fining schools that storm the field

Clemson issued a statement regarding the new ACC policy and potential issues with the Tigers' longstanding football tradition of Gathering at the Paw:
"The ACC’s revised Sportsmanship policy provides an important framework for all institutions to evaluate and enhance their safety procedures for fans, teams, and game officials in line with other major conferences and venues. Clemson is in the process of finalizing our updated protocol in accordance with this policy. Our approach acknowledges the significance of Gathering at the Paw on Frank Howard Field at Memorial Stadium, and we intend to allow for its continuation once visiting teams and personnel have safely exited the field. We ask our fans for their cooperation in this matter beginning this fall."

Maybe I’m in the minority, but I think this really stinks! Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for the safety of players, coaches and officials. This just pours cold water on post game celebrations. Maybe I’m just short-sighted?

It's the fans that will ruin this.
Clemson will eventually have to submit because never, not once in the history of meeting at the paw have the fans waited until the visiting team left.
Not one single time. The ones that jump the fence at 01 seconds will be the the 1st ones who cry and will cry the loudest.

I have not heard of or seen any big incidents caused by fans. A player may get cussed out a time or 2 but boo hoo. Nobody is getting jumped, there aren’t fights between fans and players.

Not. No.. there haven't been any brawls at clemson.. but there has been conflict.
There have been physical altercations at other schools.
You don't have medical insurance because you want to get sick. You have it to protect yourself if you do get sick.

Times have changed and if you were the personnel on the field trying to keep players and coaches out of harms way you would understand. It only takes one person with ill intent to cause irreparable damage.

This is just another extension of the pro model coming to college sports. Those overpriced millionaires can’t be mingling with the commoners and NFL security will take you down. Now we have overpriced college millionaires. Imagine not having the crowd around Dabo for his postgame interview from Auburn 2011 or Notre Dame BYOG 2015.

Agree, the 2 games you mention are great tv examples. Memories are made for kids at all games even Troy, Furman, LA Tech or whatever. Now we have also added the beer sales in the stadium to the mix. But we need to keep being Clemson and hold the line on our traditions.

Give me a break. They tried the "wait" thing when they came up with that corny "Gather at the Paw" saying. It never happened and it never will.

If we can’t show a little restraint and wait long enough for the other team to get off the field then we will certainly lose the tradition altogether.

Also, who’s saying that the Clemson players aren’t just going to go back to the locker room rather than have to sign autographs and give out gloves to a bunch of little kids.

The nice ones stick around but some head straight to the locker room.
Especially after a loss.

Several each connection the fans agave to the team and players. And why not? They aren’t kids. They aren’t students. They’re employees working a job. They are entertainers, not classmates and not your local college team. This isn’t your football program with your traditions. It’s ESPN’s Product to over-produce and package for broad consumption.

Technically wouldn’t communism allow all the comrades to gather on the sports field, similar to the public square? Whereas capitalism would need to keep wealthy on the field safe from the proletariat sitting in the stands.

I don’t think football is the big issue here. I believe that BB is where the true issue resides. Go Tigers, see you at the DV paw!

No balloon no goin on the the field no NIL money. What difference does it make. They have fxxx up college foot ball and what’s worse the decisions come out of North Carolina. At least their coach has a hot girl friend.

Times change, and so do people. It used to be safer on the field than it is now because it was mostly children.
