Clemson is aggressively seeking AAU credentialing for a reason, along with strategically adding sports.

GOR, wonder years.
AAU makes good cents, academic & financial, with ~60 others, including a couple Canadians.

I'm not rooting for joining the B1G, but the AAU membership

thing is NOT a requirement for membership in the B1G. It's just been a valued component for the current members. Nebraska got in as a non-AAU member.
So...if AAU membership comes into play at all in an effort to join the B1G, simply showing a concrete plan, with a timeline and clear steps toward achieving that goal would probably help our case.

The only university/school/college I've seen not an AAU member and sought by the B1G is Notre Dame.
Rutgers & Maryland both AAU members when the B1G last expanded as are UCLA & USC, which join in 2024.
Is it an absolute must have? Shrug? as UN has not been expelled, just grandfathered.
There are some wonderful ACC member institutions that are currently with their B1G AAU brethren, I'd say it gives them a leg up if it becomes a horse race.
[The 12 years[plan] and GOR reference is likely more coincidence, but it fit my puzzle if only for effect...]

can now pass as an “expert”. Good grief. When asked why SC would be opposed to Clemson in SEC, he says Uh, I don’t know. The obvious answer is they don’t want to be supplanted as the premier team in this state within their own conference, which is exactly what would happen. They have one advantage now, and they don’t want to give that up.

Reinforces my argument. Also agree that the Clemson “pundit” interviewed should have been WAY more confident in the “why” compared to his stammering.

Personally? I’d rather things remain as they are…
But, based on what we are being told…not an option.
If given a binary choice with Gun to head? It may be just me, but…I believe the B1G is the most logical option for Clemson and will provide us better options for more championships more often

So you think traveling to Nebraska, Ohio, Michigan, etc on a regular basis is better than traveling to states right around our own state?

We would go with a “Block” of regional schools (ie Ga Tech, UNC, FSU, Miami, UVA, et al).
Btw, it’s not really as much about the fans anymore unfortunately. Sounds counterintuitive but it’s the truth.
The B1G hasn’t been run by morons (maybe like the ACC has been). They will expand into a larger nat’l footprint with regional schools maintaining some old rivalries.

I agree this could work if they set up 4 blocks of 6 regional teams each. You would play everyone in your block every year and then 3 from a different block each year. Each team would only end up playing everyone outside of their block once every 6 years. Long distance travel would be limited to a maximum of 2 long-distance away games each year, which is certainly doable.
The only issue would be determining who plays in the championship game. Maybe there is a semi-final championship game each year between the two blocks that are playing each other that is determined based on standings instead of scheduling a 12th game each year. Each team would simply play the corresponding school that finishes in the same place in the standings, with the 1 vs 1 game being the only one that really means anything as far as the championship goes.

We are the premier programs from a football standpoint but, we’re in a bit of a tough spot. I’m confident we will ultimately be ok but, we’re not as “necessary” as many emotional fans would like to believe we are.
All of this is crappy and not good for football as I see it but, it is what it is.
I’m just reading the tea leaves and, even just for the heck of it, making prognostications that seem logical and rational vs strictly emotional.

That is what I have been thinking too. The SEC does not want OSU and Michigan playing conference games against Clemson at DV. I honestly feel that when the time comes, Clemson will have offers from both conferences.

Out of all the dumb arguments I’ve heard about why we’d go to the B1G vs the SEC there’s one thing in this video that is the only real reason we’d end up in the B1G over the SEC. That is if the SEC doesn’t want us. That’s it. If they want us then that’s we’re we are going. Period.
I still think that’s kinda crazy considering it’s about money and revenue. The best two schools outside of ND that will bring in the most money is FSU and Clemson. Wanting teams in other states just to have them makes no since to me. The second choice is B1G because it’s still better than ACC money wise.

I think Clemson would be a lot more attractive to the B1G than to the SEC.
I think the SEC would invite us and others as a way to block the B1G from expanding into the Southeast.

No way the SEC wants BIG schools playing conference football games in SC, GA, FL, etc....
We'll see how it plays out, but that gives us some leverage. The SEC may ultimately let the BIG grab us, but either way it works in our favor.
The SEC would kick Vandy, SCAR, Mizzou, etc....out before we wouldn't get an invite to either conference. (think about how much more $$$ the SEC would generate per-school if they replaced SCAR and Vandy with Clemson & FSU, or UNC, or Miami...lol)
Realignment is about college football BRANDS and television eyeballs. We bring both, in fact we bring more than the majority of schools in either conference....which is why we're not getting left out.
