At this point as a starter, Kelly Bryant had a better record than Cade has now.

Bryant was 5-0 as a starter. Cade is 2-3.
Obviously we had a much more solid team back then. Much better defense, faster receivers, and a dependable kicker.
Kelly had the misfortune to be sandwiched between our two generational quarterbacks and to have played hurt at Syracuse.
In hindsight, Kelly was better than a kit if us gave him credit for at the time.
I'm certainly a Cade fan, and I hope that he and our Tigers get well at Syracuse Saturday. Oh, and stop running RPOs on 3rd and 1.

If KB was on roster peeps would be screaming for him to be starter.
I’m a CK believer but KB as you noted was wedged bw legends.

If KB was on the team, he wouldn't have lost his starting role to CK.
CK may win us championships, but he hasn't shown himself to be Watson or Lawrence yet.

our players were tall and athletic - intimidatingly so.
now our players are the smallest on the field expect when playing FCS programs

So they were held to a very high standard. Cade has the luck of following DJ so people are more ready to be lenient with him.
Cade has made several catastrophic mistakes now that Kelly or DJ would’ve been destroyed for by the fanbase. Haven’t heard nearly as much of that with Cade

I’d take Cade 100 times out of 100 over KB. KB only started after about 3 years in the program right? KB had a stacked and packed D the coaches leaned on. He was not a good passer. Cade is extremely accurate. Physically Cade will look very similar to KB next year - he’s still young and growing. Once a much younger but better passing QB took over for KB Clemson won the National Championship - pretty harsh indictment of KB and basically showed he was the piece keeping Clemson from winning it all the year before too. Lastly I seriously doubt Cade would walk out on the program 4 games into a season if he lost the starting spot which makes him a more authentic leader.

The coaches dealt with KB2 and DJU in similar fashion.

Neither was going to consistently win games with their arm.
Those teams played close to the vest, "mistake" free football to win. Since the Syracuse game in 2022, Clemson was -7 in TO margin in 2022 and is now -2 against Duke & FSU, which does not include missed kicks.
KB2's team finished the season +4 and had 16 ttl TOs[2 vs Bama] to 28 ttl in the prior year with DW4. Dabo said going into the season that it was a team goal and it'd been X years since a team won the championship with a - TO margin.
As for vocal, field leaders, I don't believe it was close between KB2 & DJU, KB2 in a runaway, but neither were given the keys to the offense or were afforded much leash in audibles. Taj had some, DW4 a lot and TL16 as much if not more, than DW.
Cain & RRIII suffered some from the lack of explosive, down field plays under KB2. Until the 2021 finish, I believed 2017 might have been the staff's finest season.

Deshaun was able to walk up to the line, change blocking schemes, audible out of plays, etc… They were much more restrictive when it came to Trevor.

as Dabo's take started there.
The staff trusted DW, implicitly, no doubt or he wouldn't have filled the stat sheet with TOs. DW4 had the ability to forget prior mistakes and make up for them 2+ fold.

Really we probably haven’t had many start out 2-3 since the 70s. Maybe somebody under west. Not good at all.

KB cannot carry CK2's jock.....not even close. Can you imagine CK2 with the supporting cast of veterans that KB had? My goodness. That might have been the best team in college football history.
