then what it actually was...
Yes it matters. Is it the right thing to do? no... but look around. Even the coots wouldn't do it.
Letting NCST score those 21 useless points late could cost us in the long run.

Au contraire...subbing in those 100 kids and getting them experience could be a 'major benefit' for us in the long run.

1000% wrong... the ones we subbed in will never add depth because they dont ever play. We are talking 4th string guys... the entire secondary was a bunch of white dudes who are practice players yesterday... go watch the film.

This is why you dont sub all 11 at once. You sub in a few at a time and not put 11 in at once... this is not hard to understand.

You play them how they practice for cohesion and to get meaningful film not piecemeal
Sub them 1-2 at a time and the opponent goes after the 4th stringers and you get the same result

I don’t think you understand the ACC isn’t getting two playoff teams in anyway. You have to win this conference to make the SEC/BIG playoff. We played some kids that are hard workers who contribute to this program and I for one am glad they got to play. This fan base it criticizing Dabo win or lose at this point. It needs to stop.

It benefitted NCSU way more than it benefitted us.
This early in the season, I believe our 1st team could use the experience and should have played the 3rd quarter. I don't think letting the starters play 1/2 of a game is building strength and stamina by resting on the sidelines for the entire 2nd half.
But no one has to agree. If you don't I won't be name calling.

We've got some good players getting a little banged up lately. After scoring 49 in the 1H, I think Dabo weighed the risk of leaving the starters in longer, and decided it wasn't worth the risk of another key player or two getting injured. I think he also wanted to get some film on the rest of our guys, against better competition, to teach them how far they need to go to get where we need them to be. It will motivate them to work harder and maybe knock off some of that pride they were feeling in wondering why they weren't playing more.
This is all part of the coaching process honed from years of experience. I think I will go with Dabo on this one, rather than the HOF coaches we have here on Tnet...

And only 4 teams got into the playoff at that time. Same thing would happen..backups would get scored on. But they would eventually contribute to championships. Since TL left…we have been unable to even think of doing so….barely scraping by with wins. The only thing that would keep Clemson, or anyone else, out of a playoff would be actually losing games.

The answer is somewhere in the middle, actually. And using the coots (a dumpster fire of a program) as a reference is laughable. But to your point:
Putting in your 3rd-string walkons is NOT going to bring you any benefit "down the road". It just isn't.
But giving your 2nd string guys reps, as well as some kids you plan to redshirt, absolutely, positively, does. Style points don't mean squat. Wins matter, and depth matters down the stretch.

I’ve stated before, this ain’t peewee football. Players are getting time on the field to gain valuable game experience that will be needed in the long run. They’re not being put out there to make mommies and daddy’s happy campers. This program ain’t worried about style points. Win the games and the post season will take care of itself. Go Tigers. Beat Stanford!

The game is being perceived differently than you think. This was a 12:00 ABC game most people were watching during that time. I guarantee people only watched the first half, said “####,” and changed the channel. ESPN analyst just gave their current playoff predications and almost all have Clemson in the top-12. Any quick check of the box score lets people know those NC State points were meaningless

I disagree. An 11-1 Clemson team that wins the ACC by 59 point margin a game will be the 3 or 4 seed behind SEC and BIG.
An 11-1 Clemson team that wins by 20 point margin a game but plays 100 kids and builds depth will be the 3 or 4 seed behind SEC and Big. Let the kids play and further develop and maybe just maybe they will be ready if and when called.

All Clemson has to do is win out and they'll be in the top 4 of the playoffs, regardless of the final score. If we beat an undefeated Miami team in the ACC championship no way they'll be left out of the playoffs either. I'd rather let the backups get some meaningful snaps when they can.

First off, we’ve done this ever since dabo started and it’s worked pretty darn well
Second, how else do you build real depth? I’d argue we have missed this badly the last 2 years because all our games have been close owing to the offensive struggles
Third, football is a physical sport. Why expose your best players to injury in the 3rd/4th quarter when the game is decided and totally beyond reach?
You guys are dumb. This isn’t one of your stupid video games

How? Seriously, how will that hurt us?
Let me say why I think that cannot possibly hurt us: Exactly 1 (one) team from the ACC will make the playoffs--the ACC champion.
The ACC will not have 2 teams make the playoffs, the ACC will not have a team that needs a margin of victory push to get in. Outside of the conference winner slots, ESPN's relentless SEC and B1G push will fill those at-large bids.
Since winning the championship is the only viable path to playoffs, qualifying for and winning the ACC championship is the only thing that matters.
Margin of victory is not even a direct factor in the ACC tie-breakers (it might be baked into media rankings and/or Team Rating Score (i.e., 4th or 5th tiebreaker):
Two-team tie-breaking procedures
Head-to-head Winning percentage vs. common opponents Winning percentage vs. common opponents based upon order of finish, working our way through all common opponents based on order of finish Combined winning percentage of all conference opponents Higher ranking based on Team Rating Score from SportSource Analytics after all regular season games have been completed. Commissioner conducts a random draw to decide a winner.
Three-or-more tie-breaking procedures
Combined head-to-head winning percentage among tied teams, should all teams have been common opponents If all tied teams are not common opponents, the tied team that defeated all the other tied teams advances. (If all tied teams are not common opponents, but not tied team defeated all the other tied teams, but a tied team lost to all the other tied teams, they will be removed from the discussion.) Winning percentage vs. common opponents Winning percentage vs. common opponents based on order of finish, proceeding through all common opponents based on their order of finish) Combined winning percentage of conference opponents Highest ranking based on Team Rating Score from SportSource Analytics after all regular season games have been completed. Commissioner conducts a random draw to decide a winner.
If the 4th or 5th tiebreaker is something you want to worry about, instead of giving a few kids who work their ##### off everyday in practice 5 minutes of playing time on TV in a meaningful conference game then I think your priorities may need to be re-evaluated.

Exactly!
In which case, being the ACC conference champ moots all discussion about strength of schedule and margin-of-victory.
We already know that seeding will look like
#1 SEC champ #2 B1G champ #3 ACC or B12 champ #4 ACC or B12 champ
The only thing any of that extra stuff can mean is possibly a #3 vs #4 seed in playoffs.

Do you not remember our 2016–20 run? We were blowing teams out of the water DW4 and TL16 and the rest of the starters were usually out by half. But come playoff time the 2&3 deep had a ton of snaps and experience which is totally invaluable. On top of that the starters were better rested and not as banged up later in the season.
It’s obviously disappointing to see NCST put up about 21 more points than they would have otherwise, but IMO it’s worth it to build depth and experience for the next guys up

Cost us what? Playing ones and twos after the game is decided, which it was before halftime, is not wise. every snap is an opportunity for an injury. The coaches handled the game just fine, and I enjoyed the humiliation of running the forth string out there in Dorian‘s face

There are two things going on in these up by 49 olus at the half. We are building depth with young players that need it. We are getting g all the walkons in. Dabo has a soft spot for walkons. Once the settlement passes and we go to a 105 man roster, the football careers for many of those players will be over after this year. Dabo is trying to get them in when he can because he realizes the dream is over for many of those young men.
The concern for me is the garbage points were not given up by the walkons for the most part.

Agree. Think Dabo should wait to fourth quarter. I actually saw one game when he had to out first team back in. Whenever you sub up that much you are telling fans and team hame over. Then the fans quit cheering and everyone loses that rhythm earned earlier. Dorean never gave Dabo credit for pulling off the dogs and neither does any other coach. Dorean spoke of how they played better in the second half😂

Teams around the country aren’t Clemson. They don’t have 3 national championships, a coach and culture that is second to none, #### near 100% graduation rates and the best fans in the world.I personally don’t care what other teams or coaches do with their programs.Obviously other than Alabama and Georgia it’s not working too well.

Probably a good idea to get some game film on players to help coach them. 21 points late in a game doesn’t mean anything. This is what helps the next man up.

It is important for development. I hate it too, but when others go down I want someone coming in that has had some experience, coaching in a Gane situation and growth from prior mistakes to hopefully avoid mistakes as a new starter. Still, some of the soft coverage calls combined with the inexperience is a bad combo. I say be aggressive until and if forced otherwise.
