Car electronics Accessories question

Nov 9, 2015, 10:25 AM

Decided against buying a truck and planning on fixing up the Tahoe. So question,

What's the best in dash aftermarket radio for the money out there? Has to be touchscreen double din and be able to play music from phone (android and iphone). TIA

that feature you are referring to is Bluetooth.

Id go to Amazon and read the reviews. You can find something you like. Make sure to get one with a volume knob. It's a pain to hit a button to turn up the volume.

Thanks man. I tried that but it only gave me like 5 with no reviews.

Take a look at crutchfield.com but probably buy from Amazon. On Crutchfield you can put in your vehicle and it will tell you what fits and what installation kits you need.

They actually do that, but when I tried to do a double din in my Benz, and told them it had Harmon Kardon amp, they sold me the wrong harness. I backed away from the install as it became complicated.

Anyway - I just bought another harness and put it in my old pickup truck. Works great but it's a few years old now. Kenwood DNX6160 with 6.1" screen and Garmin GPS built in with back up camera. Accepts MP3, Ipod, USB, and iphone if you use a cable in the front (which I never do). Has Bluetooth with mic too, so I can do hands-free calling with my iphone sync'd to the Kenwood. I got a free map upgrade from Garmin and just upgraded it last week.

I brought that old truck from the dark ages to the space age. :)

Yep, I have the Kenwood DNX571HD

Which might be the newer version of yours. I wish it could do more as far as customizable features for the money but hey - I had to have the GPS by Garmin and the Bluetooth hands free calling and playback, backup camera essential as well. Good investment I've been pretty pleased with it. Although for safety reasons they won't let you watch a movie while you're driving. Not that I want to, but I would like to see a slideshow of my favorite Clemson Screensaver while driving and listening to music. Wouldn't be too much to ask for $900 I wouldn't think.

www.crutchfield.com.

Seriously. Bought most of my electronics from them. Talk to a tech specialist and he'll line you up with what you need.

You don't have to buy from them.

Talk to their tech support guys to get an idea of what you want/need, then shop it online.

How much you want to sink into this? Ebay has some older models (used of course) for less than $300, and they usually include some extras. Check Crutchfield or the vendor site for possible use in your vehicle before you buy though.

I think Kenwood, Alpine, and Pioneer make great products - so I would go with one of those myself. I'm not so sure about some of those no-name ones on Ebay, but hey, they might possibly be okay.

Oh yeah - you might want to upgrade your speakers too if they aren't satisfactory.

No more than 200. I have a tahoe with the bose speakers so it shouldn't be a problem. Like I said I would like something nice but doesn't cost an arm and a leg. 600 dollars is way too much to put in a 04 vehicle

And it's nice. Got it off Amazon on sale for a little over $200. This model doesn't have Bluetooth but I did recently by a Bluetooth plugin adaptor that works really well.
