No need. NCAA already has killed it. It is a proleague now

NCAA didn't kill anything except by losing lawsuits. NCAA had plenty of flaws, but most of the problems today come from court decisions that said NCAA rules were illegal.

and poor leadership over the years...the current state of college sports isn't what they want....this is all from the courts.

That being said....we all still watch the games and I don't see that changing. People love sports and its actually been good with NIL (certainly in basketball) and the transfer rule as its kept guys in school longer (better games/competition) and elevated small college guys to a bigger platform that the NCAA never allowed before.

It gets out of hand and silly at times, but it will eventually get reigned in.

Thanks for posting the link. It is a good read. It would be a travesty.

Can't say that I saw any real suggestions in there, only

their opinion that the current proposal isn't the answer. While I agree, what are the reasonable alternatives? The courts have made it plain what we have today isn't acceptable, so what is acceptable that will maintain most sports and give the smaller schools a chance? I surely don't know, but I have to believe the right answer isn't going to come out of DC.

because they realize the new rules are going to kill track. And, like it or not, NCAA track trains the world. Watch the Olympics, most of all the athletes for most countries, esp Caribbean sprinters, run track in the NCAA.

TUrning college sports pro is going to kill it all, eventually.

Just to lead, I'm a capitalist. What the SEC and ACC and ESPN, Big 10 and Fox, Big 12 both, have been doing is a breach of antitrust laws. Not sure why that hasn't been tried. People love to talk about free market principles in sports, but that has always been a fallacy. Colleges historically have subsidized most sports and football is a money loser for most colleges. Even pro sports have revenue sharing. Pure free markets would destroy sports because they are all about competition. It would lead to a fraction of teams and athletes. Being a national issue, it doesn't seem likely an answer exists without DC.

For clarification: why not individual media rights agreements than player compensation.

But to be a contrarian, times have changed. Many of today's players are making serious money. They have full-time tutors that take their online tests and write their papers. At many schools, players rarely attend classes. Every class is online, and there is little to no interaction with the general student population. The players live in luxury apartments.

I like the writer's mindset, but he's 10-20 years behind the times.

start of the year, there are about 50 teams that THINK they have a shot, and FIFTY more that want those FIFTY to get their butts kicked each and every week. And then EVERYBODY want the top team to get beaten every week.....But....if you get it pared down to maybe 20 teams, and Clemson, South Carolina,Arknasas,Auburn,Wisconsin,GT,Purdue,Illinois,Arizona State....teams like that become Furman and Wofford on steroids....Well, those teams fans will not give a plug nickle about Bama,OSU,Oregon,ND,Michigan..etc. WILL THERE BE ENOUGH VIEWERS TO MAKE THAT SCENARIO FLY. I doubt it. Overkill....kills everything. Look at NASCAR. Look at bass fishing tournaments. Even us diehards are about to get sick of 150-200 boat tourneys on Hartwell, Russell, Murray, Santee throughout the year...Between high school, college, local, regional, and national tourneys, the lakes are covered up....

Well boys, there's 30 seconds you will never get back!
