Can't leave it be, But Coot FB was allowing 200 yds per game

Dec 29, 2022, 12:24 PM

for about 5 yds per carry..and Clemson got that 200 yds gift plus 37 extra yds rushing against them for total of 237 yds net rushing.

My continuing grief is Why oh Why did Clemson coaches basically quit on the run in 3rd & 4th qtr when their QB was off the 2nd half and needed help so to keep moving the chains.

Now, as we know NDame is a 60% rushing team and proved it against Clemson.

So, will Domers continue running it against Coots or will they depend on their very average QB to get the win, as Clemson did?

My contention all along - our game plan should have been Run, Run, Run, and Run again!!!!!!

I read your postings. You most assuredly shared and I have it too so I figured a little rubbing was fair game.

Yea had not thought about it but you are correct.

I would have bet you anything I owned that they would not beat Tennessee or Clemson.

Running last year was what won that game.

The play calling this year was asinine in that we threw it almost 30 plays. No way DJ beats you throwing it that much.

About as confusing as Tommy taking Merriweather out of the game.

Listened to Dabo’s pre game interview on the radio before the UNC game (ACC Championship) and he was stressing the need to establish the run. I was pumped up. We came out and threw it 3 straight times with DJ missing on every one if I’m remembering correctly.
I’m no coach but #### some things seem obvious to any fan that watches our games and somewhat has a feel of what the players can do.
We were in game 13 your QB just hit 8 passes for 99 yards with one being a chunk play and you call 3 straight passes to start the next game??

I don't agree. We had 3 possessions after they took the lead.

Dec 29, 2022, 6:11 PM [ in reply to The coaches screwed the pooch big time that game and it ]

Playcalling was not the reason we failed to execute. First off, we did NOT run for our game average during those last 3 drives, and we were put in down and distance situations where throwing was the right call. It wasn't the fault of playcalling that the QB was terribly inaccurate and even threw a HORRIBLE INT during the 2nd to last possession. And even with all that, if don't fumble that last punt at midfield, I'm fully confident we get 15-20 yards to put us in position to kick the game winner.

No playcallers are perfect. EVER. It especially looks that way when the certain KEY positions fail to execute.

It's perfectly okay to admit the chickens made an adjustment at halftime and slowed our rushing attack, forcing into longer 2nd and 3rd downs. Are we supposed to run in 2nd and 8 or 3rd and 7, or do we have to throw against a stacked box. That answer is obvious.

We called what we did for reasons. In spite of the dwindling QB performance, myself and the folks I was with understood why we were doing what we did, but we darn sure expected better execution. At no point did we think we were going to lose, and I think everyone in this thread would express the same... all the way up to the fumbled punt.

Obviously some guys are going to hold on to this for the rest of their lives. That's a shame.

I'm with you. I've had some thoughts as so many have over switching to Cade at some point in the 2nd half, but going away from the running game bothered me more than anything to do with that game. Shipley averaged 8.8 YPC and only got 15 carries in the game. Mafah averaged 6 YPC and only received 7 carries. That means our 2 leading backs ran for 174 yards for an average of 7.9 YPC and only received 22 total carries between them. That would be almost understandable if we trailed by multiple scores for most of the 2nd half, but we led for the entire game until early in the 4th, and we were within 1 point for the entire game after that point.

Frankly, I was not confident we could line up and just run the ball play after play. Typically, the running game has worked when opposing defenses are off balance. When they know it's coming, typically the offense has a hard time running.

I'll also add that there has been quite a lot of complaining this year about running the ball and not passing it, so go figure.

Remember that drive Notre Dame had against Clemson where they basically ran 2 different plays? If we see ANYTHING other than that when they play USCjr I'll be shocked. They will use the old playbook that Danny Ford made popular here. RUN, RUN, RUN, and RUN some more. And should win by 21.

GAME PLAN - Cade run the Zone Read until you cant stand up

anymore........ Clemson wins, is in the playoffs and has its winning streak ....easy peasy....but our coaches didn't want to win that game for some reason

Gonna have to be the same plan as the CU game. Throw, throw, and throw some more. Especially with no Bell or Lloyd. If Rattler is on, we'll get our share of yards and points. But if he reverts back to pre-UT status, we're screwed. Our best defense is going to have to be our offense.

Fortunately our DBs are good enough to leave out on islands with their WRs. So we're going to have to have Safeties down in the box most of the day. We'll see how it goes.
