Can you tell me why when we lose a recruit out of FL, GA or SC we never hear it blamed on the recruiter but if we lose any from the Charlotte area it's always Pearman's fault?

Pearman has a reputation of not keeping tabs on kids, even when they are high on Clemson. See North last year and Hood himself said a while ago that he hadn't heard from the Clemson recruiter for about a month. We're losing FAR too much talent out of the NC area.

but he had an offer to play RB here later on.
Pretty sure the LB offer came before his JR season.

can we get the north carolina schools out of charlotte too?

north didn't stay home either, did not want to deal with clemson's depth chart and said so from the get go. as far as i can tell, his father made that call with tennessee losing their frontliners to the draft. north not coming only stung because robinson mcintoshed us.
see a pattern?
from everything i've seen, clemson was recruiting hood, but wanted him at lb. we had 2 committed rbs and apparently turned the heat back up only after cook dumped us.
i've heard pearman isn't the most dynamic recruiter and that's probably exasperated on a staff that sports a lot of very good ones. that doesn't make him a bad one and with charlotte just down the road i'm sure it's easy for the staff to support him any way he needs.
powell was reportedly shown the door for his laziness on the trail. i can't imagine if pearman was dogging it that dabo would hesitate as the trail is where clemson butters its bread.
long way till signing day. hopefully some things fall clemson's way before then. we're tight on numbers again. will have some interesting choices along the way i'm sure.

Hood at one point said he hadn't heard from Clemson in over a month. That's lazy recruiting, particular with a player most would deem to be oversign-worthy.

said so, he was down on our rb list & we back off recruits all the time.
if any rb was over sign worthy it was green last year. we backed off after giving him the chance to commit prior to dye. it happens all the ####### time.
IF pearman is tanking it, it will be addressed.

invested in cook as we did in dye by not taking any more.
we only have 14 spots this year right? we have a lot more pressing needs than tying up 3 schollies this early on 3 rbs.

Cook and Oglesby are both small, quick backs, Hood is an up-the-middle bruiser type (which Chad Morris has said repeatedly that he prefers).
We say we only have 14 spots this year, but if we only sign 14 guys then our coaching staff isn't playing big boy football. Hopefully some of the guys on scholarship than aren't playing will realize (with a little help from staff members) that they could get playing time at FCS or Mid-Major schools instead of riding the pine at Clemson and we'll have room to sign at least 17 or 18 guys.
It had also been pretty obvious that Cook wasn't a very firm commitment for quite a while before we lost him, and if it was obvious from the outside, it was probably even more obvious to the coaching staff.

how many different ways do you want to go at this?
Apr 29, 2013, 12:28 PM
|
|
now we don't play big boy football recruiting, over-promise, over-commit and/or over sign? should we start kicking players to the curb to make room too?
you want us to lie to commits? because that's what it seems like you're suggesting.
you have much bigger issues or problems than pearman if that's what you expect from clemson and this staff.
i don't believe for a moment you're going to get what you're looking for and i for one am happy about it. good luck with it though.
it happens, it'll happen again; you might want to start getting used to it & the butt hurt won't last so long.

I'm not saying kick kids off the team for not performing, but when it becomes obvious that a kid will be a career benchwarmer, is it not best for everyone involved if he goes somewhere where he can see the field? Lots of Clemson players have already done it, and a lot of them have seen good results. For example, Brian Linthicum would've barely seen the field at Clemson and would've been essentially a wasted scholarship, but instead went on to be a very productive player at Michigan State.

you're saying. swinney has said[right, wrong or indifferent] that he views scholarships as 4-5 year deals not 1 year renewals.
there have been some transfers that have probably been for the best, no doubt. still, no one is getting a scholarship yanked because the coaches haven't 'reached' them in a timely fashion.
i'd imagine in a moment of pure truth, swinney and staff would admit to having missed on evaluation, still don't ever expect to see kids kicked to the curb because the coaches missed up front.

Yeah' I'm absolutely against yanking scholarships, but if a player moving on can help both sides then I strongly encourage it.
I didn't like to see Brian go because he was so talented, but he would've been Dwayne Allen's backup even though he was one of the 10 best TEs in the country his senior year.

Tony Rice should have been ours for the taking.
And yet we lost him to Notre Dame.
IMHO, anytime we go head-to-head with Notre Dame for a great recruit, we are in for an uphill battle.
But, so are 90% of the schools in the country.

Powell was a bad recruiter and coach. Pearman is a good coach poor recruiter. We have seen it year after year. I have also talk to several hs coaches in charlotte they all say he is a poor recruiter. Gets out worked and doesnt build relationships with recruits. Clemson should be the major player for kids in charlotte. .

Anybody that has watched this guy run the fb and not want to let him be a RB is insane IMO. Surely Dabo saw the videos of this guy, so there must be some reason why we got out-recruited for him. Dabo has to accept some of the blame if we insisted on recruiting him as a LB.
That said - we are losing a bunch in this area of the country. Problem needs to be addressed by Dabo.
