Not cool to single out players like that.

Singling out a Clemson football player for the purpose of

Oct 18, 2012, 11:52 AM

ridicule is wrong. Criticizing players to discuss problems on defense is one thing, but making a post to humiliate a Clemson student athlete is messed up.

It's as if you forgot that you could never do a tenth as good as him and people like you would humiliate you for it online.

Can I single out a coach for continually putting Meeks in

Oct 18, 2012, 12:02 PM

the wrong position to make a play? Of course that position is anywhere on the field! I really had high hopes for that safety position when we signed Meeks on 2009. He was a 4 star guy coming out of Hargrave. But thus far he always seems to be out of position, take a bad angle, or simply have bad instincts on the play action stuff. If he gets to the ball he is a decent tackler but he's certainly no Robert Carswell (probably the best pure safety at Clemson in a long time).

I think there is a dividing line between supporting Student

athletes vs. coaches. I don't think anyone should ever publicly attack a student who has come to Clemson to play for us. I will criticize a player's performance, but only for the sake of discussing what is going on with Clemson football. Sometimes players are the reason something goes wrong. But I would never try and humiliate a Clemson Tiger for fun.

eh...i sorta agree....just playing devil's advocate...

Oct 18, 2012, 12:14 PM [ in reply to Singling out a Clemson football player for the purpose of ]

with the PRAISE they get for spectacular performances..............they're gonna get the ridicule for poor performance......unfortunately that's the way it has been and that's the way it always will be.

it's part of being a player/coach in the spotlight.

plus.......nobody gets offended when an OPPOSING player gets ridiculed on this board.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I made a distinction between criticizing and humiliating.

Oct 18, 2012, 2:40 PM

Plus I don't think it's useful to equate humiliating a rival for football related screw ups to humiliating a person who is playing for us. We should defend our own though. I would say a fanbase that sticks up for its players when they are down make for a superior fanbase than those who trash their own players for mistakes on the field.

Again, I am not suggesting we stop criticizing, just don't try to publicly humiliate our own guys. I think human nature has turned college sports into an uglier thing. Recruiting, expectations, rivalry and priorities are now totally screwed up. It takes people drawing lines and setting limits to keep it from getting worse.
