Notice the fan support from his first year, when excitement for what Oliver Purnell built, coupled with the belief that we had achieved a certain level of success that BRad would build upon, created a great environment for basketball.
Fast forward to today, with a $63.5 Million dollar shining facility on a hill, and we have an almost 20% drop in attendance.
What would you estimate the lost revenue at over the course of an 18 game home season? $1 Million to the school? $1 Million for the local economy?

Didn't they remove a ton of seating though ? May play a part in some of the drop .

here are the facts. brad will be back next year. fact. you and the coachmacs of the world will just have to deal with it. it wasnt the decision i wanted to hear but guess what, he will be my coach and will get my support 100%. hopefully he will make some changes and get this thing headed in the right direction. why dont you and your snowflake buddies get behind the "program". you dont have to like the coach. being on here 24/7 saying the same thing over and over does no one any good.

What changes do you see Brownell making under duress
Mar 21, 2017, 9:29 AM
|
|
that he wouldn't make on his own?
Don't take it personally. It's a discussion board, so when you decide to keep the basketball coach around after 7 years of sub-mediocrity, there will be some discussion of it. If you have something to add that supports your belief in Coach Brownell, feel free to mention it. If it hurts your feelings, you may want to find something else to do for awhile.

problem is you aint discussing. you are saying the same thing over and over. we get it. you dont like the coach. maybe "discuss" what will make the program better since he is now going to be back. imo the 1st thing is getting a juco or 5th year big man in here. its spring snowflakes, dont melt.

How can you say that with any certainty?

What indication do you have that a similar outcome next year will suddenly be grounds for dismissal? I doubt DRad has higher expectations for next year than he did for this year. Expectations, along with attendance, have fallen dramatically since the Oliver Purnell days.

lol your facts are skewed though the fact that you refuse to admit that says a lot about your ability to have an adult conversation.
Also not sure why you are bringing up Brownell apologist in my direction...
I have said starting 2 years ago this year was NCAA T or bust. I have been done with him for most of this year.
Edit: I also will GLADLY admit that attendance has fallen to unacceptable levels. I simply am saying your comparison is flat out misleading and not a good one. It is apples to oranges.

Misleading is comparing attendance this year to a number that is not even reachable.
That is the misleading part.
That is the ONLY misleading part and you didnt even need to use it to make your point...
All I am saying is be honest with your assessment.
Attendance is garbage right now and has been for years you dont need to massage stats or mislead to get that conclusion.
Also not sure who you are referring to as a Brownell apologist over and over again but it sure as hell shouldnt be me.

I don't go to basketball games (only made it to 3 this season). So I'm staying out of this fray and letting the experts argue about it.
I do go to almost all football and baseball games, only sports I feel educated enough to speak to.

Okay for starters...
The max we could have had this year would have been 9k..
Littlejohn is smaller by over 1000 seats from what it was his first year.
I am not defending Brownell but if you are going to have your little hissy fits at least be honest with your stats.

Would only come into play if he was arguing OP's 10,000>BB's 9,000. Size of the arena has nothing to do with the fact Brad has lost almost 2,000 fans. New LJ seating capacity only accounts for 400+ of those. Fail.

How does a 9,000 seat capacity reduce demand to 7,541

I don't follow your logic. Also, wasn't the gleaming new facility and the enthusiasm of Brownell's best team ever suggest an increase over 2015 attendance? We are talking about a facility that was only upgraded for this year. How do you explain the steady decline to the 2015 level?

Well lets see you are throwing that 20% number all over several other threads when that number ignores the FACT that the most it could have been is 9000 which is still a 5% drop.
I wuold also love to see the numbers if you removed ACC sell outs that are increasing the first year number.
What if you were to make those at 9k instead of 10k. What does that do to the attendance numbers.
See that is where your little hissy fit fails the test. You are not doing an apples to apples comparison.

tickets sold vs actual attendance. Towards the end of the regular season this year there were less than 3,000 people in the arena. We didn't have that problem in CBB's first year. Plus it's even more alarming when attendance was given some help early on due to the excitement of a renovated LJC. You can't possibly argue that over Brownell's tenure attendance has not suffered dramatically.

They're based on tickets sold rather than actual people in seats.
Starting with the Cliff Ellis era until now, I can count on one hand the number of home basketball games that I have missed. There have been many times over than span when the announced attendance was upwards of 8,800 while the actual attendance was closer to 5,000 or less.
Take it from someone who has been there and witnessed it first hand, if anyone is attempting to argue that the attendance has not steadily declined under Brad Brownell, particularly during the latter half of this season, they're lying to themselves.

I'd be curious as to the money brought in. May be less tickets but same amount of money.

One factor that had some negative effect on attendance was game time. I think Clemson played 3 of its ACC home games at Noon on Saturday and Sunday. The attendance is larger for later afternoon games due to the distance many Clemson fans must drive.

Are you a season ticket holder? If not, you don't know what you are talking about. You are quoting numbers out of context. The new facility seats less than the old facility - so percentage wise how does attendance compare? The cost to buy a season ticket is much higher than Brad's 1st year. If you have been a season ticket holder you would know that. You are comparing apples to nuts.
As a season ticket holder in basketball and football for over 35 years, I am not happy with the results this year on the court. But, I am more unhappy with the new facility, the cost of tickets and the selling of Clemson sports to the highest bidder with little regard to the people who have supported the programs for years.
We loyal supporters pay more for worse and less seating to see empty seats for the rich. That may be why attendance is down?
Also, I think you way over estimate the revenue impact. If you are a season ticket holder you will know how much a ticket costs time $1000.
And, I was glad to see Purnell go. He left on his own accord. Clemson was never going to get any better under Purnell and never won a NCAA championship game under Purnell. A change was needed. It hasn't worked out with Brownell but I get tired of hearing about over-exaggerated claims with Purnell.

What average price would you assume for tickets?

Also, the 2015 numbers in the old Littlejohn are almost identical, though a bit higher. How do you explain that?

would be interesting to see the revenue figures

as suggested above, i wouldn't be surprised if this season's home revenue is higher than 2015 with the higher prices and the $50 - $250 additional 'donation' per seat
season ticket sales for this past season were up... bet that won't happen for next season
