There really isn’t an explanation.
It’s absurd. The only thing I can really point to is that there’s a common thread running through every Brownell season except for two — and it’s bad guard play. Chase Hunter has been especially bad.

Opponents have figured out they only have to guard Hall and Girard. Chase Hunter has been terrible. Brownell his usual barely average self.

Sure, we are playing better teams. No offense to Alcorn, Queens, Radford or Winthrop fans, but those schools are not ready for prime time.

When we aren't hitting the 3's, we keep shooting them rather than run a play and score 2.

When you have no threat if 3's, then teams can pack it down low and make it very difficult for you. We have good shooters on the team, and you dont just tell them to stop shooting 3's.

Why do you continue to state that there are good shooters on this team?
Realistically we have 3 players who can potentially average over 10 points per game, Chase Hunter, PJ, and Girard.
I won’t even mention Hunter’s shooting problems. PJ and Joe are also shooting at low percentages. Forget about the bench.
Who are these good shooters??

Conference teams see Clemson often enough to defend well.
and we've regressed to a mean...
Back to 5 minute scoring droughts and live by the 3 die by the 3 with no point guard and Gerard who is well known in the ACC to not be able to create his own shot.

Shooting and rebounding has declined and we lost some belief. Initially we were winning the close games and now we are dropping a few.

The calendar flipped to January and we started conference play.
