that have been a part of our history. Don't dodge it or downplay it; face it head-on and learn from it. Anything else is dishonest and chickenshid, and detracts from our greatness.

Perpective is key here. When doing the above, it's important to remember that those things alone do not define us, and are only part of a bigger story. In no way do those errors and injustices invalidate the timeless principles that truly define our country, in spite of our failures. America is in no way an evil country, especially when compared to most others.

The worth, rights, and freedom of the individual is still what it's all about, and in order for that to be realized, it requires acknoweldgement and acceptance of that much, plus respect and cooperation between all parties from the start. We have to accept differences and work through disagreements without hate and violence.

We're an experiment, a work in progress. Stay focused on the right things, and we will get closer and closer.

My Dearest Lungeites,

I take up my pen this afternoon with a heaviness I can no longer ignore. The events of this day have lain upon my conscience like a weight I can scarcely name. I fear I have wronged you, though the harm was never my intent. Still, intent does little to ease the burden when hurt has already been carried from one heart to another. Know also that I am a PBS Passport holder and a fan of Mr. Burns for more than 30 years.

I have replayed my words more times than I care to admit, and each time they fall upon my ear with a sharper edge than when first spoken. If only I had paused—just a moment—to consider their course before they left me. But what is done is done, and so I write you now in the hope that this letter may serve as a humble step toward reconciliation.

Know that I hold your friendship in the highest regard. It has been a steady presence in uncertain times, and the thought that I may have shaken that foundation troubles me greatly. I offer you my sincerest apology—plain, unvarnished, and without condition.

Should you find it in your heart to forgive me, I would be grateful. And even if forgiveness must wait for another day, I remain, as ever,
