So if most Republicans polled now see the Tea Party as

Oct 16, 2013, 8:29 PM

separate from the Republican Party, does that mean that we now have one major party that can win national elections and two minor parties that can only win senate seats and house seats?

Seems like the Republicans have no chance of carrying any minority group such as Asians, Hispanics, African-Americans, Gays, and can not carry a non-minority group like women.

How are the Republicans going to win a presidential election in the near future? They have made their standing worse with all of those groups even since the 2012 election. I just don't get what they're trying to do. I understand fiscal responsibility, but these groups have many fiscally responsible individuals. They can't vote for the Republican's version of less government because the GOP will not stay out of their private lives.

Oct 24, 2013, 11:44 AM [ in reply to Once again: Ignorance about the Tea Party ]

Here are their core beliefs on the site. A few I can agree with...

1. Illegal aliens are here illegally. (Yes, but what do we do with them? Spend the money to root them out and send them where? This is not an easy problem.)
2. Pro-domestic employment is indispensable. (Wall Street keeps shipping overseas. Does this mean Main Street or Wall Street?)
3. A strong military is essential. (Wasted so much money on wars as of late. Keep it strong but cut the wars!)
4. Special interests must be eliminated. (I Agree)
5. Gun ownership is sacred. (Disagree. I believe a constitutional amendment is needed to clarify what the 2nd amendment means because it is terribly unclear. Besides this is a secular country)
6. Government must be downsized. (Some things need to be downsized others expanded)
7. The national budget must be balanced. (I Agree)
8. Deficit spending must end. (Same as above, I Agree)
9. Bailout and stimulus plans are illegal. (I agree. Banking laws must protect citizens from banks taking too many risks.)
10. Reducing personal income taxes is a must. (On the poor and middle class yes. Taxes on the rich should be raised to similar levels as the poor middle class)
11. Reducing business income taxes is mandatory. (Which businesses? Wall Street disagree, Main Street agree)
12. Political offices must be available to average citizens. (Requires campaign finance overhaul. Citizens United blows this core value to hell)
13. Intrusive government must be stopped. (I Agree)
14. English as our core language is required. (In what sense? Those that refuse to speak English never get very far here. I might be able to agree with stopping government having non-English versions of official documents. However, being annoyed at McDonalds because someone doesn't speak English is no real skin off your back)
15. Traditional family values are encouraged. (I don't like this term at all. It implies that anything outside of what was considered normal 200 years ago is still outside the norm. This is wide open for real critique of being bigoted)

Koch Brothers. The Koch Brothers started it, finance it, and control it. The "Tea Party" is nothing more than a marketing scheme to pull in right wingers who are too ashamed to be called Republicans or right wingers disaffected by the direction of the Republican Party, to vote Republican on election day. Most so called "Tea Party" adherents are completely tone deaf as to the views that a majority of Americans hold. The "Tea Party" is going to drown the Republican Party.

It is bad for democracy the direction the Republican Party is headed. The Republican Party needs to become the party they were 50 - 60 years ago, when Republicans were actually fiscally responsible. The Republicans need to rid their party of the dixiecrats, religious fundamentalists, far right wing conspiracy theorists, homophobes, xenophobes, and "tea party" adherents. If not, the Republican Party will become irrelevant over the next 20 years.

It's easy to just lump everyone who disagrees with you together and label them as intolerant, stupid, uneducated....robots, but all it does is prove that you're uninformed and intellectually lazy.

The tea party movement and issues rarely have anything to do with social conservationism. The whole movement is based on fiscal reform, free market economy, and Constitutionally based restraint.

A lot of folks had problems with the spending....

Oct 18, 2013, 10:56 AM [ in reply to And I'm glad you guys finally showed up to show that ]

during the Bush years. I was one of them. The GOP as a whole lost Congress as a result when the GOP stayed at home on Bush's second mid-term. Of course, after that we saw what real fiscal chaos looked like and we ended up with Bush pushing back against the Dem Congress over excessive spending.

But I agree that nearly enough were standing up to run-away spending under Bush. However, you just can't simply say folks now opposed to President Obama's budget priorities are hypocrites, since he's taken the deficit levels under Bush and made them look small.

The deficits during Bush's term averaged $196BB...if you shift the period down 1 year under the reasoning that the POTUS doesn't own his first yr budget, then the average moves to $379BB.

Under Obama, the average is $1.21TT. If you ignore 2009, then it is $1.16TT.

So I think it's perfectly reasonable for someone to be more upset about spending now than under Bush's watch. Don't you?

As for your other comment below, I don't normally cut and paste anything...you won't find many examples. My posts are my own thoughts.

As for who the GOP will appeal to in the next Presidential election? How about everyone that is about to get screwed by Obamacare? Maybe folks that were upset about Benghazi and the way in which it was handled. Maybe folks who don't agree with his class warfare rhetoric. Maybe folks that are concerned with the runaway welfare mentality. Or folks who believe he's become weak in many foreign leaders eyes. Or best yet, the people who are still unemployed/underemployet after we've followed the Dem playbook for economic recovery for the preceding 8 yrs.

I think there are a lot of people that the conservative/moderate GOP message appeals to and you're delusional if you think that's it's just "rich white robots".

The problem is the MSM is very liberal and mischaracterizes the right as radical, racist, out of touch, etc. They love to say that the Pubs, esp the Tea Party, is so extreme that Reagan would call them out. What a joke. The Tea Party was inspired by Reagan. He'd be the Tea Party's bigget fan if he were alive today. The Pubs are not moving further to the right. The Tea Party and Pubs are not the problem. The founding

Oct 18, 2013, 1:33 AM

fathers knew the greatest threat to the republic was a loss of the free press. Their concern was a government that grew corrupt and tried to control the press. They never imagined the press becoming incredibly biased and carrying the water for either side and flat out lying, manipulating, and misleading the populace in such brash and blatant ways as the MSM today.

The left could not win national elections on the facts, the truth, about the truly important issues. The left hijacks national elections with emotional social issues, states rights issues, like abortion, drugs, gay marriage, etc. and targeted scare tactics directed at those special interests. But they get away with it because the MSM lets them. They are, in fact, assisted by the MSM in their duplicity.

Walter Cronkite was a flaming liberal, but the public never knew this because he, and the media in general, use to have ethics. He knew the press had a fiduciary duty to report the news, not make or shape the news. He knew they were reporters, not pawns of the left.

The left loves to use false narratives like painting the right as extreme wing nuts and evangelicals. As low information voters. Faux news viewers. Yet they can never point out a single lie told by Fox News. In fact, it's the left that is full of low information voters. A large percentage of people under 35 say they get their NEWS from Comedy Central or Bill Maher. Kids are pumped with leftist propaganda from 1st grade through college. Even Clemson has gotten in trouble letting liberal groups do anything they want while shutting down conservative groups. The left touts free speech & tolerance, yet they are the most intolerant people in America and shut down free speech from the right as often as possible, esp on college campuses where free speech and opposing ideas are suppose to be truly sacred. If you don't agree with them you are labeled stupid, a dinosaur, a bigot living in the 50s, backwards, a flat earther, a radical, etc.

Conservative ideals are called hate speech. Almost every graduation speaker at colleges in America are leftist, most are indeed radicals. Most of the convicted leftist radicals, like the Weather Underground, are teaching at high profile colleges today and hailed as heros. Cop killers! And the left constantly tries to get the FCC to shut down Fox and conservative talk radio while using tax dollars to fund NPR, which is incredibly liberal. NPR fired Juan Williams for admitting he gets nervous on planes with a bunch of Muslims. So much for free speech and tolerance. Had he said he hates being on a plane full of evangelicals they would have laughed and given him a raise.

This is all allowed because the free press decided to sell out to the left.

Oct 25, 2013, 3:53 PM

divisive politics pushing scare tactics regarding social issues without the media being complicit. Abortion, drugs, gays, wars on women, it's all BS that has no business in national elections.

Why won't Dems & the MSM let any Fox people host debates? Are they scared of real questions? Tough questions?

Think Obama wins that debate without fat ### Candy Crowley lying her fat ### off? The moderator is not suppose to engage nor take sides.

Look at Wisconsin. The MSM refused to reveal all those protestors at the capital were paid to com in from out of state.

How about Texas? The left says limiting abortion to 20 weeks is the dark ages and putting women in shackles. How many times has the MSM pointed out that not a single European country allows abortion beyond 13 weeks, all but one limit it to 12. And many countries do not allow abortion on demand. Are women in shackles in Europe or living in the dark ages?

Birth control is over 99% effective. There are very very very few women that would get pregnant that don't want a child if women actually did take personal responsibility for their bodies.

The entire progressive agenda is total BS based in lies & deceit and the left & Dems get away with it because the media is incredibly liberal. Over 90% of the media votes and donates to liberal causes.
