@GeeVille Tiger THE ART OF LOSING: A MASTERCLASS BY THE SOUTH CAROLINA GAMECOCKS
By: A man who should’ve quit this addiction decades ago ! Me !
—————
There’s losing… and then there’s South Carolina losing. There’s disappointment… and then there’s what happened today in College Station.
Up 30–3 at halftime over the No. 3 team in the country — looking like maybe this once-in-a-generation fanbase would finally get to feel joy again — and then the Gamecocks remembered their DNA.
They remembered who they are.
They remembered the sacred mission: Raise hope… then set it on fire.
31 unanswered points later: Texas A&M 31 South Carolina 30 Season over. Spirit obliterated. Sports therapists ordering Maseratis.
This wasn’t just a choke. This wasn’t just a collapse. This was sporting malpractice. This was the Chicken Curse grabbing the wheel and flooring it into a guardrail.
And let’s be honest… we’ve all seen some things. Fifty years of heartbreak teaches you the signs. But this? This was a new frontier of pain. A masterpiece in misery.
⸻
Leadership? What Leadership?
Game management? Adjustments? A plan beyond the halftime cheerleading session?
No. We rolled out the red carpet to defeat like we owed it money.
A competent coaching staff sees momentum slipping and slams the door. We? We hold it open and offer them sweet tea.
Shane Beamer may be a great hugger. Wonderful motivator. The kind of guy who could hype you up before jury duty.
But SEC football isn’t summer camp.
This man coaches like the scoreboard has a feelings button.
⸻
Institutional Mediocrity: The Real Mascot
We’ve become the sentimental story of the SEC:
“Oh those adorable chickens, always trying their best!”
We're the sports worlds "Slow Cousin” Bless Our Hearts !
We hang banners for “showing fight.” We give extensions for “energy and enthusiasm.” We celebrate riding the bus to the big game like that’s the accomplishment.
We got invited to the party — and we are just thrilled to be here — even though everyone else is dancing on the tables and we’re sitting quietly with a Sprite.
⸻
The Fans: Loyal or Just Delusional?
We keep coming back. We keep believing. We keep saying “next year” like we’re reading a ######.
We shovel money into a furnace and call it hope. We tattoo heartbreak onto our souls. We pass this disease to our children like a cursed family heirloom.
We are the most loyal fanbase in America… or the dumbest. Hard to tell anymore.
⸻
The Harsh Truth
No offensive coordinator with self-respect takes this job. Not when the head coach seat has enough heat to bake biscuits.
Either:
A) The university grows a spine and fixes the rot, or B)We continue being the SEC’s comic relief.
Because delaying the inevitable only guarantees more inevitability.
⸻
Final Thought
This program doesn’t lack talent. It lacks standards.
Winning shouldn’t be a miracle. Losing shouldn’t be a brand.
But every time they rip our hearts out, we dust off the garnet and black and whisper:
Go Gamecocks. Because we don’t know how to stop.
And after today’s humiliation — after the greatest collapse we’ve ever endured —
we will once again… illogically… foolishly… tragically…
wait for next year.

No halftime lead is big enough for USuC. I was 1000% confident they would blow the game.
The only way A&M could have possibly lost the game is if I had bet on them at halftime to win, so I refrained from doing so for the greater good.

It was all part of Elko’s contract negotiation. He told the AD “I will spot SC 30 points and still beat them. That is how good I am.”

and they can experience a lifetime of misery, gloom, despair, and agony as well because that program's history, barring a very few uncharacteristic seasons, has been built largely on failure and disappointment. It's what they have always been, it's what they currently are, and it's what they always will be, and if their "fans" haven't learned that by now, it's only because they choose to live in a fantasy land and keep their heads stuck up their own a$$e$.

I had the pleasure of watching that game with two Coutts. One a relative and one a current student at USuC. They were already celebrating in halftime, the second half was glorious

with fans. Some psychology grad student should study their mental disorder as a doctoral thesis.
Their delusion seems to renew itself every Spring with a belief that "the light at the end of that football tunnel isn't a train". By November their pre-season delusion clears for a few weeks when they admit that once again the same train that runs over them every year has once again arrived. It's a brutal cycle that just keeps repeating itself... and I find it glorious...
