Brown L Contract Extension

Anyone else concerned about DRAD close to signing Brown L to another contract extension. He's already signed through 2021 and we had one really successful season in the last few years. I mean lets not forget a year ago we finished 17-16 and 12th in the ACC and lost to Oakland first round of the NIT. I have serious concerns with his in game managagement skills considering we lost so many close games that year. Have a lot coming back this year so I'm optimistic that we will make the tournament again but going forward we are not recruiting at a high enough level to keep this success going. Why not let him finish out his existing extension DRAD! and if hes successful then extend him!

hopefully you got that handle from what your friends call you. recruiting has picked up greatly since the new facility was finished. coach is very respected in coaching circles. cant you just enjoy what is happening "right now". maybe you could start by learning to spell his name.

CBB being able to recruit? He just made the Sweet 16 and won a lot of those close games they lost the year before. There were times to complain about him after some bad seasons, but coming off the season our Tigers just had, this is not one of those times.

If you are going to post as a newbie at least get the coach’s name correct! Secondly Brownell is earning his reward for a process few on Tigernet understood. While his overall record could be improved I give him credit for putting up with marginal facilities in LJC initially, playing off campus, and raising funds for the revival of LJC in addition to his regular duties. Recruiting is picking up and I expect Brownell and staff to continue a process of winning.
While his detractors whine and complain I found it quite interesting that his peers were complimentary of Brownell during last season, especially in keeping the program moving forward with injury and a change of scheme mid-season. I wonder how many other programs may have approached Brownell after last campaign?
DRad will accomplish what he thinks is needed to maintain a rising program.
Go Tigers!

Clearly you guys are missing a play on words there with an L for the amount of losses that Brownell has had over the past 8 years. You're acting like the guy has made us an elite ACC program. We finished 12th two years ago. Recruiting wise we haven't signed a guy in the top 150 for next year. We have no 2019 commitments. I just don't feel confident on the fact we are going to keep getting transfers. I'm happy about the success of last year I really am but the guy is extended for 3 more years. I'm saying lets hold up on another extension til we see back to back successful seasons which we have not under the Brownell era.

You complain about recruiting for 2019, yet still want to hold off on a new extension. Good luck convincing players to enroll in Clemson when you can’t promise you’ll be able to coach for his four years. When we start to get momentum in our basketball program i think it’s smart to make sure we get in a rhythm with coaching, facilities, etc.

deal. With the current recruiting environment, any coach that doesn't have long-term stability with their deal is at a massive disadvantage. Brownell's last "extension" was done solely so he could still recruit. If you notice, Brownell wasn't given a raise and Clemson's buyout if they were to fire Brownell was actually decreased. That contract was essentially D Rad giving Brownell one last chance to prove he could do something while still appearing to offer some stability so Brad could recruit.
And Brad took that final chance and did something with it. We had a very good team last year and made the Sweet 16 without one of our best players. Brad has a little bit of leverage now and i expect he will actually get a real extension now.

He's got 3 if you count this season. With our facilities and season last year Brownell no longer has any excuses. I just hope this next extension we are doing better than making the tournament once every 6 years. Unlike some people in this forum who are happy with NIT first round with losses to Oakland at home and let's not forget the embarrassment of storming the court after beating Belmont to advance to the NIT semis.
I have higher hopes for this program. We have made lots of progress but lets see some consistency out of brownell. We should never finish below 10 in the ACC. We should be making the tournament atleast every year. I just want consistency before giving all praise to Brownell.

than you say we should? I would love to make the tournament half the time and i think that would be a great goal to have as a program, but is that realistic at Clemson, an historical doormat in basketball? I would like to see the list of schools that have made 5 of the last 10 or 10 of the last 20 tournaments. Outside of the usual top programs, i bet it's a pretty short list.

We should because we are an ACC school with a pretty loyal fanbase and we have brand new facilities. Miami has made it 4 out of the last six years and they have very low attendance and very little basketball history. IF they can do it we absolutely can. I don't see how me expecting more out of our program from a consistency standpoint is a bad thing. But THE SKY IS GREY over here

Wishing or hoping for more is different than

expecting more. If you have unrealistic expectations and then the programs fails to meet them is that the fault of the program or you for having unreasonable expectations? It's important for those in charge to make rational decisions and firing Brad right now would be irrational. And there really isn't another option. You either extend him or fire him because doing nothing can significantly impact recruiting (in which case you might as well just fire him).

Wait One year see if last year wasn't a fluke and see the development of the younger players sims and trapp and what we can do without gabe. We make the NCAA tournament no doubt extend him. We lose NIT first round or finish below 10 in the ACC it's time to let him go.

I tend to agree with you. This feels a little bit like Clemson football a few years ago with Bowden at the helm. Not a bad guy and the program was doing okay but he wasn't going to bring us to that next level. Brownell has shown that him and his staff can develop players nicely so curious to see what he can do with a big recruit if he ever gets one. Basketball has such a different air around it though with all of these one and done guys that recruiting becomes more and more difficult especially as a program not as rich in basketball history. Let Brownell have the chance to prove this season whether or not last one was a fluke and go from there.

Brownell essentially lost two recruiting classes. Sorry, but you're not attracting top-level talent when you have no home court or practice facilities, as compared to the other major and, frankly, mid-major programs. Also, his first two recruiting classes were devoid of any relationships. Realistically, he's had four classes with both hands tied behind his back. The worst season on his watch was B'game's last season...addition by subtraction could have made a big difference that year.

one decent season, when your job is likely on the line, does not merit a lengthy extension, a large pay raise, and another ridiculous buyout.
