Brian Dawkins

Nov 28, 2012, 10:30 AM

Can someone tell me how good he was at Clemson? I was born while he was in God's country but I can't remember ANYTHING, I was like 1 year old. It seems like he was a better NFL player then college because I dont hear nobody bringing him up as 1 of the best football players to come out of Clemson. I always here William Perry or Spiller. Anyways it's just good to wake up and see a former Tiger on ESPN. Go Tigers!

recall him having any honors higher than that. Yes, he did become the excellent player he was while in the NFL, not at Clemson. Also, if I remember correctly he played at Clemson in a down period in our football program which didn't help him to be as good a player for us as he might have been.

Per Wikipedia:

"A three-year starter at free safety for Clemson University, Dawkins finished his career with 247 tackles and 11 interceptions. He was a 2nd team All-American selection as a senior when his team-high six interceptions tied him for the conference lead. He was named the first-team strong safety on Clemson's all-centennial team in 1995 and was selected to their Athletic Hall of Fame in 2009.[4][5]"

He was thin and frail looking. Then turned out to be a BEAST. Amazing how much he grew.

best ever DB at the time, not by a long shot. Let's put it this way; nobody would have thought he would go on to be the best DB we ever put into the NFL, much lest best player.
