Whatever you do, always give 100%.....unless it's donating blood

Wasn't Heyward only under contract for a year or two. The braves always seem to do well in trades. I wonder who the minor league pitcher will turn out to be.

Yep, last year of his contract and is more than likely the reason for the move.

The Braves need hitting more than a gold glove outfielder

Nov 17, 2014, 1:45 PM

I would have dealt BJ Upton before Heyward although I doubt they could get any takers for Upton.

Not a very good trade, with him and Walden. Miller was 10-9 with a 3.74 ERA and then a minor league pitcher. Heyward was a great defensive outfielder even tho his bat never lived up to the hype. They really need some .300 hitters and hope the pitching stays healthy for once. Hopefully they bring Santana back, but 2B and RF are now 2 open slots in the line up.

Miller is only 23 and he is under contract for 4 years

Nov 17, 2014, 2:18 PM

I was shocked to see Heyward has only hit over 20 homers once in his career. His contract is up after 2015

Well yeah the bottomline was they didn't want to pay him after this year. They will have to make a decision on J. Upton next as his contract is up after this season too.

Get used to it...the Braves may be clearing house this

Nov 17, 2014, 1:47 PM

off-season. Only a few players are safe: Teheran, Wood, Kimbrel, Freeman, Simmons.

Santana and Harang are gone too....

Nov 17, 2014, 2:14 PM

and Medlen and Beachy will be coming off their second major elbow operations.

Forgot about La Stella....

Nov 17, 2014, 2:21 PM

Atlanta traded him to the Cubs for Vizcaion who the Braves previously traded to Chicago year ago.

J. Upton may be next.***

As you said before.....

Nov 17, 2014, 2:38 PM

other than a small group of select players, noone else is really safe.

Kimbrel is the biggest one they need to unload. Closers are over rated and expensive. Trade him for a top bat.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don't necessarily think that is a bad idea...

Nov 17, 2014, 2:21 PM

But I don't think the Braves feel the same way.

No they need to keep him, not to mention they just signed him to a 4 year deal before this season.

HEYWARD has been a big disappointment-average power for a big guy-wish they could get rid of BJ Upton

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

lol.....IF BJ Upton was included in the deal....
