Biggest Issue for the ACC moving forward

5

Dec 26, 2024, 6:55 PM

MONEY. That’s the only reason we have fallen behind in basketball and football conference wise.

There is no way teams can compete with SEC and Big 10 shared revenue.

The only way to overcome it is through independent alumni and booster fundraising. No one knows where all this will lead in the future.

It isn’t the only reason but it is a major reason. Coaching and player development play a role as well. Talent identification is also a secondary issue. We’ve missed on more lately than I ever remember.

Amazing & sad part is ACC got hemmed into a low $ corner

By certain ACC AD’s and others plus they accepted a terrible long-term deal that has crushed our ACC teams economically.

We were better with 8 to 12. The additions are sucking more funds with little contribution.

MEG

We have entirely too many private schools and that is a big part of the issue***

The gap closed immensely this year compared to last. Been hearing this about the ACC since the 1970’s. TV revenue share is just one piece of the puzzle. Clemson isn’t hurting for money. Clemson has one of the cleanest ledgers in all sports. We haven’t borrowed money to do anything in quite some time. We have built through private donations. Most schools can’t make that claim. Many in the SEC and B1G can’t. SC is in pretty dire straights when it comes to money. Worse than FSU. SC is promising revenue sharing money from the unsettled House vs NCAA case. That huge contract given Air Noland is contingent upon the NCAA case settlement. Just like most of heir mercenaries. Most all schools are promising revenue sharing that hasn’t been approved yet. If the ruling gets pushed out they are all screwed.

We've always trailed them in football but yes..

money is part of the problem, but we've only just begun to feel the effects of the TV revenue discrepancy between the ACC & the SEC/B10, they'll increase tenfold in the coming years.

They have the product and are now realizing they have to work together to market it to media. Thus the inter conference fb and probably bskt ball games which the networks are salivating to get. The ACC does not have the national product to sell other than FSU/Clemson in fb and UNC/DUKE in bSketball.

Some say pvt. equity may save the ACC but I don't see a return on investment for the firms putting up the money unless they can come up with a better revenue generating plan than the ACC currently has.

Shared revenue is capped at 20.5 million for each team no matter the conference if I’m not mistaken and we are using the max. Where acc falls behind is TV revenue they funnel back into nil and they have huge alumi bases compared to Clemson. Just my thoughts Go Tigers!!
