Big QB with big arm

Jacob Eason, UGA, didn't work out. Joe Milton, presently at Tenn, overthrows everyone. It's more about touch, technique and accuracy.

Is he improving his footwork and mechanics?

That will be the key to him improving his accuracy and building confidence.

While I dont 100% agree with it, some pretty experienced coaches and gurus will tell you that you are either accurate or not. I know that I wasn't beyond 20 yards, but luckily we ran option, so not a huge problem in the 80s lol. I DO think it can be significantly improved upon and can only hope that in the off season he spends a LOT of time with either Jordan Palmer or George Whitfield. JP usually only gets them before the draft, but he's the guy I would most like to seek help from.

My question is this. Elliott and Streeter say they knew this existed when he got here. He's been in our program 21 months and two off seasons. Why hasn't it been addressed... Or is he just not picking it up.
Not critical of him at all but that does kinda point to a coaching question.

Well, we’ve slacked off on developing any of these guys. The WR’s, OL and QB all appear to have regressed. Hearing “another great practice” over and over again all summer caused false expectations. I knew there would be a drop off from TL, ETN and Rodgers … but didn’t think we’d fall so far of the cliff.

That kinda shows in some plays when he rolls out and has to react and move and then make the throw. It is mental and on one hand he is trying to make the right read/decision and then that is flubbing his mechanics. However, there is also a "lazy' (which isnt the right term) and some poor mechanics on the "easier" plays.

It's concerning that our coaches seem so surprised

by what's going on.
As you said, D.J. has been in our program for nearly two years. They recruited him for a while prior to that.
They had plenty of time to coach him up and/or game plan to his strengths prior to now.
You can't convince me that D.J. was an amazing quarterback up until the first game this year. What we've seen these five games isn't just mental.

over his career at Clemson. He made a big jump from his sophomore to junior years.
I expect DJ to improve dramatically as his mechanics improve and his confidence grows.

That, plus an improved scheme that gets receivers open

better so that a perfect throw and heroic catch aren't required to complete a pass.

Add Jamarcus Russell to this list as well. Mr Purple Drank NIL before it was fashionable.
I have never understood scouts’ obsession with a big arm. There are golfers who can hit the ball a mile. That alone doesn’t make them a good pro.
When scouts say a QB can make every throw, that makes sense. But every throw includes, as you stated, touch, technique and accuracy. Big arm does not.
