I noticed while watching the FCS Playoffs last weekend that the Final Four

Teams were ranked #1,#2,#3 and #4........which is exactly what playoff brackets are "supposed" to be designed to do. They began with 16 teams and will end with #1 vs. #2 with the other 14 teams having their shot at the trophy if they could catch lightning in a bottle.
There is no possible way in the world that the CFP Final Four will come out that way this year due to the Auto IN and first round Bye for high ranked conference champs. If you want to watch the top 12 teams play a tournament, then you put the top 12 teams in the playoff tournament and you bracket them accordingly. Simple as that. With this silly format, there will be top ranked teams play each other in the semi's and one will get knocked off.

is the political and monetary pull the SEC and Big 10 have. They would dominate the "rankings" which are totally opinion based. We will probably end up there, but I say hold on as long as we can.

If the Big10 and the SEC have so much influence, why does the Playoff work like it does? Always saying the SEC and Big10 receive all the benefits is just a lame attempt to justify a fake narrative. Maybe Trump has a job for you.

There has to be some sort of benefit to playing a conference championship game and winning it. And if you lose your conference championship game (Penn St, Texas)…are you top 4 material? Should Ohio State lose to Michigan and then get multiple weeks off to be a 4 seed?
Pretty sure the top 4 argument is also intended to give the SEC & Big the top 4 seeds no matter what.
I do think it makes sense in a 16 seed format with home games for conference champs, no BYEs, etc. to rank them in proper order and guarantee top 8 seeds for conference champs.
At the end of the day, it’s a playoff, you win, you advance….not sure what the complaining is about at this point.
The SEC & Big will want all the benefits of whatever happens…that’s all we really know at this point.

Totally agree with you on advantage of conference championships. Do it just like basketball, except only have 16 teams. Champs automatically in but no byes.

The FCS guys get it right. I’m sure their is some controversy but the political, conference, human interference is not a problem.

Let the computer, AI, decide. Have a group of coaches and ADs get together to set the parameters for rankings and then get out of the way. Play the games and conference championships , use the computer for final rankings, seed the top 16 teams based on these rankings.
This takes out the human element as much as possible. Just a thought.
