Why Dabo won't leave...

May 2, 2018, 11:12 AM

Yes Dabo played for Bama, was on a National Championship team, grew up there, etc... and I'm sure he's flattered to be mentioned as the heir apparent to the mighty Saban...BUT consider these points (mods this is not a list)

• Dabo has built and continues to build a dynasty (his dynasty). He (and Ford) are the exalted ones at CU.
• The Clemson family loves the Swinney's. He is much more than a football coach to the University. Dabo can be CU's Bear Bryant.
• Yes, Saban is a great coach. (too lazy to google) but how many coaches have won NC's at Bama? Saban didn't build this machine...he's just a great operator that keeps the machine fine tuned.
• Despite Saban's success he will never be Bear Bryant who sits alone atop the Tide pedestal. Bama fans will not be dressing up like Saban after he is gone.
• Dabo has his own coaching style, stresses high principals and morals...it is not a "win at any and all cost" SEC philosophy like Bama.
• Dabo would probably be successful at Bama...maybe not immediately due to the different coaching styles. His success could also depend on how/when Saban leaves. Is it right after another NC or after a down year? What’s in the cupboard?
• Dabo has his coordinators, they fit his vision of CU FB and they seem to love him. However, I don’t see them all packing up and bolting for Bama. Many are Clemson boys...someone would step in as head coach. Just saying it could take Dabo a few years to build the staff that he’d want. Bama fans are very patient.

Perhaps most importantly…Dabo's Bama days were his "glory days", he can always go back and celebrate with his old coaches and teammates, visit family. But Clemson is home...it is where the blood, sweat and tears have soaked the ground (on and off the field). It is where he and Kathleen have built a foundation and raised their kids…there’s orange blood pumping through their veins. Bama is the hometown...but is it home?

What Paulina Finebum and the rest of the SEC media fails to comprehend is this:

CLEMSON is CLEMSON! We’re not AlaBAMA…we don’t want to be. There IS something in these hills…it’s “Where the Blue Ridge yawns its greatness and where the Tigers play”.

Clemson.is.family, Clemson.is.home! Go Tigers!!!

Reminds me of the Dean Smith will go to Kansas talk from decades ago. I don’t buy it. He stays here and becomes our legend. Like Dabo says, “grow where you’re planted”.

Only reason fans won't dress like Saban is because Saban

doesn't wear a distinctive hat. He is already considered by many to be the greatest CFB coach of all time.
