Best TV Reception for Tailgate

Sep 18, 2023, 9:50 AM

Looking for most preferred and reliable method for TV reception at Clemson Tailgate. All suggestions appreciated.

The most reliable, IMO, is Dish Tailgater. Some people have luck streaming but I have not. (Seems if you have Verizon you won’t be successful streaming)

Noodle GeeVille Tiger®We also struggle picking up the satellite signal on our dish tailgater due to trees/obstructions (we have a wine guard tailgater paired with direct tv box). Our phones are Verizon, so using smart tv internet hotspot via Verizon never works! This year, we’re considering getting a burner phone with a AT&T plan just for football season so we can pick up a cellular internet signal for streaming… Thoughts? (I see comments about hard wiring the phone to the tv but if it’s a Verizon phone, I don’t see that working) Thanks!

If you have obstructions that you can’t maneuver around, like with a long cable, then you’re out of luck there.

You’re correct that hard wiring makes no difference if your phone can’t stream.

I haven’t made the switch away from Verizon because I’ve always had clear sky for my satellite. I would probably just switch my service rather than get a single line just for football…but that is up to you, of course.

Or, as I did for several years, just watch a neighbors TV. Definitely the easiest route.

I have AT&T for mobile service. Have Youtubetv for my streaming service. I just use smartview and send my phone to my tv. I've never had issues. Some say uou can log into the guest wifi at Clemson but when I tried it was very bogged down with so many people using it.

Same for me

I use att&t and youtube tv, only difference is I turn my phone into a wifi Hotspot and share it with the streaming device on the TV. I've never had an issue.

not about service.. it is about accessibility

Dish and DIRECTV both have portable dishes.. or you can bring a big dish if you want to manually adjust it. BOth work just fine IF you can catch the satellite. IF you are under a tree or wedged between buildings you wont catch a signal.

Dish lets you pay as you go.. direct does not... that is the bigger decision

u can try to use your phone , wirelessly or hard wire. I have T-mobile and a HDMI chord for my phone so i can plug it directly into my tv.

I find that if i start streaming from my phone early.. before any one gets there... i can usually watch the games w/o a bunch of spinning wheels of lag. IF i try to connect right before a game starts or in teh midle of a game.. i struggle.

i also have a $20 digital antenna that picks up NBC and fox at my tailgate spot. I can't seem to get ABC or CBS

I watch tv#1 with the dish tailgater and the 2nd tv gets the antenna If i want to watch a fox/NBC game or the phone if i want to watch abc/cbs game.
