I'll be playing Southern Oaks 2 days in October. We played there 2 years ago and can't wait to play it again.

Let me know when you’re in the area. It’s only about 10 minutes from my house. I was pleasantly surprised the first time I played it. I’ve been playing there about once a week since May.

@rhettfla that would be great! Also have been wanting to try out the Walker Course and some of the Cliffs courses. I can make a special trip down there anytime. Not playing very well but love to be out there.

She lives off of a Henrydale Dr in Easley.

We are about 10 miles west of Henrydale, or about the same distance from Southern Oaks as she is - just on the other side. I went out there and found a group of older, mostly retired guys that play on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Good group of guys that welcomed me right in. I only play one day a week usually. They don’t sell beer there so they allow you to bring your own cooler which I think is great. Beer is a lot less expensive that way. I’ve never played any of the Cliffs courses. I did like they Walker course when I played there. Let me know next time you come this way and have a little extra time.

Used to be able to play 9 holes at Donaldson Field for $3. Probably not still around. :0)

That course closed around 2010. Bonnie Brae near there also closed not long after.***

Legacy Pines is gone after next month. Another victim of the housing market.

Verdae and Furman are the two best public courses imo. I’ve played them all many times.

We play The Rock and Oconee some

Quirky layouts, but inexpensive and well maintained. I am not sure about “best”, but fun (and in the case of The Rock, scenic)

Most of the courses around here have been in as good of shape as they have been in years due this summer being hot with a lot of rain. Walker Course on Campus is a good layout and is always in great condition. Oconee and. Boscobel are the next two closest. Boscobel could use some cart path work, but the course is a fun layout and is in wonderful condition right now. Best greens in the area. Oconee is in very good condition right now. I think it is fun to play but It is a little quirky in terms of course layout so it won’t suit everyone’s taste.

Never played Boscobel but they always seem to be doing a good business every time I ride by.

Greer Country Club is pretty decent for the price. River Falls is always nice. Willow Creek is in good shape usually.

Played River Falls, if you are talking about in the Duncan area? It’s been so long ago they had not even built the club house yet. If I remember it was not an easy course.

That must have been back around '92 or '93. I always liked the course. It was a complete bear from the back tees. I wouldn't even consider that today at my age.

Woodfin Ridge above Spartanburg is a great value, and a very good course. I play it once a year when I go to my annual Clemson game (live in northern Ohio).

River Falls up 85 a little bit is a Gary Player Design

Aug 10, 2023, 2:54 PM

haven't played it in a while so i'm not sure if its still in great shape but used to be a go-to.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

i'd probably hit Verdae though if you need to be around

Any one play Carolina Springs in Ft Inn? Played it a few times in the early 80s when I lived a couple miles away before moving to NC. It was the home course for a couple CU golfers if I recall.
