This season proves that that slogan was meaningless in the long run. It's easy to come up with nice-sounding catchphrases when things are going well, but the last two seasons have shown that Dabo cares more about giving his buddies a job and protecting the fragile ego of his quarterback.
He has abandoned what got Clemson to the top of the mountain: hiring a coaching staff with experience who have proven that they have what it takes to win at the D-1 level. If Dabo never brings in Brent Venables, we don't beat LSU in the Peach Bowl and start bringing in truly elite talent;on defense. If he never hires Chad Morris, we likely don't land Watson and later Lawrence and Alabama probably wins two more titles.
Instead, we get a bunch of former Clemson players in positions they're not qualified to hold and the product on the field reflects that. DJ still has no pocket awareness and can't read a defense to save his life. He's still just as slow a runner as he ever was and has no ability to make decisions on the fly. I won't even get into his throwing accuracy.
The WRs look totally lost; can't block, can't catch, can't run routes. The secondary is the worst we've had in a while. LB play has been better lately, especially Trotter, but it's still a far cry from the days of Boulware. DL I will give a pass due to injuries and players being out.
Sadly I don't have any confidence in Dabo to make the necessary changes any time soon. He seems committed to giving Streeter, Goodwin, and Grisham time to learn on the job while the rest of the elite programs hire guys who know what they're doing as soon as they're hired.
I really hope I'm wrong because I don't think I can watch another team as frustrating as this one was. 10 wins is nice but the ACC is weak. If DJ comes back with Streeter as OC, next year will be more of the same.
