I'm talking to a buddy of mine about coming up for a game.

Oct 7, 2022, 4:00 PM

Trying to get a date he can come. When we come should I just use the Clemson site (Ticketmaster) or use a secondary site to get tickets?

I'm thinking we could stay in Thomson, GA (I-20). It's 100 miles to Clemson. It would be right on our way. Is it far enough out of Clemson where we wouldn't have to pay triple the price for a room? We'd stay there Friday night and Saturday night.

Any suggestions you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Stay in downtown Greenville, SC. Very nice with great restaurants

Agreed. Also a D driver in case you get to meet TNET crew tailgating cause you will definitely be offered libations.

Greenville has numerous motels and is 30-40 miles from Clemson. Most rates are very reasonable. I stayed in a Comfort Inn on 385 (35 miles or so from Clemson) after the Furman Game. Cost me $115 for the night. Room was clean and had double Queen beds. Go Tigers.

Agree with you all but sounds like Bret would like to stay south of Clemson and I can understand that. Thompson would be a really good spot. Nice easy drive to get in early for tailgate and easy drive after the game. Gives you time if 330 game to enjoy tailgate afterwards or a late dinner Clemson area. If a night game, you'd probably be back in Thompson by 1230 or so.

Do you know which game? I'll check if I have extra tickets...

That's Thanskgiving weekend.

I'll be enjoying that on TV with my 3rd helping of dressing.

I concur, stay to south and west of Clemson. Check into tailgate parking on that side of campus for quicker exit after the game.

What about checking for tickets here on Tnet? I believe you will need a Ticketmaster account to receive the electronic transfer of the tickets.

Excellent idea. Choose the game Bret. You're so well liked and respected on tnet that you'll get 2 tickets. There's always something that comes up. Even last week someone was giving their tickets because we all know Ship Happens.

And Ship will have a field day again against the yardbirds. Heck, won't shock me in Kentucky has 300+ rushing tomorrow.

I would check the TNet ticket section and buy

here. Post on here what game you are looking at coming up for and I'd bet, as the most well liked TNet visitor, someone will have extra tickets.

I'd suggest staying in Greenville, SC. You'll be able to find a reasonable hotel and it is a great city with an awesome downtown. We've been able to find reasonable hotels outside of Clemson in Anderson & Seneca as well.

Two must-do's, walk the campus if you get a chance and hit up the Smokin' Pig for BBQ...ok three...get ice cream from Hendrix Center on campus.

Been 30 years since I've been on campus.

Oct 7, 2022, 8:16 PM

I'd love to see how much it's changed.

I was there for 6 or 8 weeks in the summer of 93. Lived in an apartment east of campus. Don't remember exactly which one. I just looked at google earth and tried to find it, but no luck. I rode my bike to class (only about a mile) and my wife had the car. I was in class in the morning. Played a lot of golf in the afternoon while there, but we had plenty of time to walk around and drive around.

We had a great time that summer.

I guess people can't understand that Greenville

Is on the opposite side from where you're coming. Geez

We come up from the panhandle, where all of the cool people in Florida live, and stay in Commerce, GA. It’s an hour away after the game and a head start on your way home, plus you avoid the inflated game day prices.
One downside is that you have to watch out for Georgia home games that same weekend as it’s a similar drive away from Athens.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'll be driving from just outside or Orlando.

Oct 7, 2022, 8:29 PM

The quickest way to Clemson is either go up I-75 to Atlanta and cut over, or go up I95 to I26. Both are about the same.

My wife and I drive to east TN (that's where her family is from.) We used to do the Interstate thing up there (just east of Knoxville). Now we stay off Interstates and meander. I've got about 4 different ways we drive through GA.

For this trip we'll drive up through east GA, inland and go just west of Augusta, unless I decide that is where we'll spend the night.

If it's a night game, we may drive closer to Clemson. But, it's only a 2 hour drive to Thomson, GA and that won't be too bad even after a night game. We'll be fired up and need to unwind. We can listen to postgame coverage on the radio.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

My friend comes from Orlando to most every game...he never

Oct 7, 2022, 10:05 PM

comes through Atlanta...I think he comes through Thomson. If a night game, I would try to get closer to Clemson, because you probably don't want to try to leave Clemson before midnight, to let the traffic thin out some.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Preshayte the advice.

Oct 7, 2022, 10:08 PM

Thanks, I may do that. I could drive up to Hartwell. I might try Anderson, but I'm afraid the rooms would be prohibitive.

Right now, the plans are to stay in Thomson.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Nah, it's really not that bad.

Oct 7, 2022, 8:19 PM [ in reply to I guess people can't understand that Greenville ]

If I drove up I-95 and cut over on I-26 it would be almost the same drive time as traveling the back roads through GA.

The wife and I are coming up from Tampa for the Miami game. Tried to pick one preseason that I thought would have some juice! Swing and a miss…haha.

She has never been to Tiger Town and I haven’t been back to the Motherland since 2010! I am oozing with pride to show her the digs and picked one he77 of a season to decide to come back home with all the stadium upgrades! It was meant to be.

Not trying to hijack your thread Mr. Bret but I’ve been procrastinating on posting this question since we talked the Grandparents into watching the boys for a week, booked the flight, bought the tickets, and made the reservations in Anderson!:

Are there any Clemson folk that wouldn’t mind having the wife and I join your tailgate? We will not show up empty handed and I want to show her what all the screaming at the TV and the emotional involvement with Tnet is all about!

GO TIGERS

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You're not hijacking at all.

Oct 7, 2022, 10:53 PM

I'm sure you'll get plenty of invites based on the graciousness of the folks here.

Your post is buried so deeply in my thread a lot of folks may miss it. You might want to start a new thread with your request.

Great idea about a new thread. Just closer to the game. We drive from Lexington, SC to Riverview several times a year. If you're fortunate, the 95-I26 isn't bad. But the last 4 trips down, we nearly kept it all 301.. Just can't take that mess around savanah. We lost so much time. Redic 95 two lanes in SC as well as 26.
