Basketball

Just curious about what our program is considered to be from other perspectives. The P5 conference status really only matters with NET, but doesn’t mean a thing in the tournament. That’s obvious with who made it to Final 4.

We don’t make the tournament often, but have been competing in the top half of the ACC more often than not. And Brad is no doubt picking up his portal recruiting a bit. If we land Girard, we’ve got everything it takes for anything if PJ comes back as well.

I just don’t know what level Clemson is categorized in.

We are categorized as a bottom half ACC team that would be a surprise tournament pick and no actual shot at making a run. The funny thing is, Miami and FSU have also been categorized as that, but have made final four runs and won conference titles.

We are a bad program with a bad coach. We have huge potential that we refuse to tap into because we are scared to get worse instead of trying to get better at a gamble. If we were even slightly better, we would've landed a program changer like Zion Williamson who would have come here 10 miles down the road if we were competitive.

We stick with Brad, and you can't spell his name without bad. That's about it.

If Clemson was a slightly better program we would have landed Zion? Money had nothing to do with it?

You do realize that we went to the sweet 16 they year before? You also realize that he was paid to go to Duke, right?

He was never coming to Clemson.

Miami used a large NIL to buy two elite guards. It's common knowledge. Clemson does not have the will or deep pocket alumni to match their method of breaking through the glass. FSU stumbled on a coach who did well. His total win percentage as a HC is 0.56 which is less than Brad. He did have a good run at FSU but seems to have run out of steam as he was 9-23 this past year. Many other schools have tried cycling through coaches with nothing to show for it except crappy teams and buyout debt.

That's a little harsh....and 100% accurate, unfortunately.

losing-out on Zion Williamson had very little, if anything, to do with the quality of Clemson's program.

Your post is quite dramatic.

We are not a bad program and we do not have a bad coach.

Saying things like this are evidence that you can't be objective.

JK

I remembered. You’re doing it again. If you were objective you wouldn’t use personal feelings about Brad to justify anything. As you show Dabo no mercy, Brad gets the treatment. You showed Dabo no mercy about his “roster management”. But now you get mad when someone says Brad sucks.

Brad sucks.

There are a few things you are wrong about.

First, I don’t have personal feelings about Brad. I think he’s a good coach, but I have no problem being objective about him.

Second, there is plenty of evidence to support the fact that he is a good coach:

-Most wins in Clemson program history
-He’s had a couple of our best seasons in program history
-Best ACC winning percentage in program history
-Outstanding graduation rate
-One losing season in 20 years of being a head coach

If you don’t think he is the right coach for Clemson, that’s fine. But you really don’t have any basis for saying that he’s a bad coach, and certainly not to claim that he sucks.

Third, none of your opinions about Brad make me mad. I don’t let other people’s opinions dictate my happiness.

Fourth, you are the one who seems to be allowing personal feelings to cloud your judgment. You and others have Dabo on a pedestal to the point that he can do no wrong. You don’t like it when I hold Dabo accountable and point out times he hasn’t done a good job, so you resort to bashing Brownell. This is evident in many football threads where people don’t like my comments and their response is to criticize basketball. It’s both sad and hilarious.

Two things.

He may be the winningest coach but he has been there 13 years. Its not like he has a huge number of wins to get there.

Out of conference schedule is always weak. Play someone. It ranked over 300 this past season. How many times has he had a great out of conference schedule only to faulter in the ACC. Had he played a better schedule they would have made it to the tourney possible this past year.

He is an okay coach, but can't get us to the next level. 13 years is enough. Time to move on.

I run into a lot of Clemson people who think the same thing.

Our season next year is already over.

non-conference schedule, right?

Playing a tougher non-con is dependent on a few things:

1. Clemson being invited to play in a top early season tournament. We have not been invited to one. Brad has said publicly that we should be but haven't been.
2. Clemson playing in neutral site tournaments against teams that are good. Last year, we were hurt by a few teams that not being as good as expected. Scheduling teams that were NCAA Tournament teams the previous year suggests that they should also be good the following year, but that isn't always the case. It's a gamble.
3. Clemson getting favorable matchups in tournaments like the ACC-Big 10 challenge. Brad has publicly said that we rarely get paired with a good Big 10 team, even the year after we have very good seasons. Why not? Why not let us play Indiana, especially since Brad is from there?

Clemson basketball tries really hard to schedule good non-conference opponents. Part of it is that the perception of Clemson basketball is that we don't really care. Gee, I wonder why outsiders would think that?

Few of your points are objectively true and they can all easily be countered. He is a bad coach allowed to fester way too long.
