This team played poorly today and won against a ranked team comfortably. They have size, skill, and depth…and a very creative coach (though we beat him when he was OC at Bama).
That team is Texas. I feel like we could go toe to toe or beat any other team by a score if not more. Their QB returned from injury and probably played his D+ game today. Manning is more than a quality backup.
They’ll be a huge hurdle for anyone the rest of the way, especially when the QB comes back to form.

I'm not convinced. I think these two teams might be better than Texas. ESPN just refuses to talk about Ohio State or Oregon because they're mad they lost a lot of their Big Ten TV rights.

You really can't say. Sure we look fantastic at times after the other team's ones wear out. There's a lot of teams we'd have trouble with... until we play a big boy school, we won't know. A lot of people thought the g5 schools were good for beating up their conference foes but couldn't hang.
The only team we played was uga and right now that's looking like a worse game by the week.

UGA played a bad half and lost a close one in Tuscaloosa. They will be in the playoff, you can bank on it. Their halftime adjustments versus us and Bama were clinic worthy. The way I look at that game is UGA got blasted in the first half, but Bama got blasted in the second. They definitely exposed some things and Bama has spent a couple games trying to recover.
We can match their physicality, depth versus them or a Texas would go to them especially on defense.
My hope is our offense can help keep our defense fresh while we still grow some guys up.
I think if we caught Texas on a game like today we could beat them, but if their hitting on all cylinders it’s going to be tough.

We’re getting a bit over our skis if we’re believing … at this time in the season … that we are up to being ready to beat any from among UGA, OH State, Oregon, TX, or even Bama.
I mention Bama because, against S.Carolina (who no one believed had a chance against Bama in Tuscaloosa) Bama was probably a little less juiced than had Bama been preparing to play us.
None of truly top end teams would take Clemson lightly. They’d be hyped up to play us. Because we are good, even at this point in the season.
As much as all us hated losing to UGA so badly in Game 1, we appear to have taken this loss to heart and has helped us to avoid complacency against the (let’s face it, mediocre) teams in all of our other games.
We’ve got to improve defensively with pass coverage and with tackling. FSU and Wake showed us that we are not ready for the brightest lights yet. Yet. At this point in time.
I expect our pass coverage to improve as our DBs (especially those other than Aveion Terrell) become more reliable as they keep facing live action.
Tackling? This concerns me. We’re not bad, but we’re sure not great. Is this correctable … is this simply a physical limitation thing? If tackling doesn’t get fixed after the UVA game and the bye week, then we won’t have a great season. Very good season, yes. Great season, no.
It will be fun and exciting, regardless of the CFP. I expect us to win 10+ games, which is my worst case expectation.

Agree about getting out over our skis a bit.
I am not sure about putting Bama in that elite group right now - after the last two weeks.
I would NOT want to face Texas, Oregon, OSU, or UGA (and maybe one or two more)right now. We could be ready by CFP time.
I am happy with the team's progress - they look good. But it occurs to me that it might be the case that the only thing that has really changed since we got drubbed by Georgia is the level of competition. It is entirely possible that Clemson is a top 20 team that can readily handle unranked competition. It does not mean we are ready to rumble with the big boys.
I hope that I am wrong. I hope that we progress, get healthy, get in the CFP and reek havok all over the place. I believe that is a real possibility, but I am not sure it is a fait accompli.

Don't let the cupcake wins fool you. Clemson would likely lose to everyone in the current top 10. Clemson has a good team, not a great one. Clemson had a year to prepare for UGA and still couldn't score a TD. UGA, Bama, OSU, Oregon, Texas would be likely blow out losses. The Pitt game and Carolina game are gonna be tough outs. Next year is likely the year the tigers make real noise..

... if I were ranking teams based on who I think would beat whom on a neutral field, I would rank them
1. Texas
2. Oregon
3-12 Next ten (or so) teams.
I don't think anybody could give a clear and convincing argument whey the any one of the next 8-12 teams is better than all the rest.

The best team right now is Texas. I don’t think many can argue against that.
They have great depth especially on defense and their OL is stacked with experience.
The only problem with Texas is Ewers. He will give you a couple opportunities a game to get turnovers. Also… Texas hasn’t “been there and done that”. That’s their weakness at this point.
If we get Oregon/Ohio St in the Big 10 title game in Indianapolis… it’s a wrap… Ohio St will blow them out. Oregon is not the 2nd best team in America and if they hadn’t played Boise St and Ohio St in Eugene… they’d have 2 losses.
Out of the top 5 teams… I’d want to play Oregon bc I think we can absolutely beat them.
If we see Georgia again… it will be a different story. I’m not saying we would win but I promise it won’t be 34-3. It would be a 4 quarter game.
Alabama doesn’t scare me at all. As a matter of fact I don’t think Bama is going to have a say at all… they will lose at Tennessee and to Ole Miss giving them 3 losses which all but eliminates them from any playoff talk.
As much as I hate to admit it… the one team I don’t want to see is Ohio St. I think Ohio St would beat Texas on a neutral field. Ohio St WRs are a huge problem and they have depth everywhere including a starting OL with 4 SRs and a JR.
Outside of Texas and Ohio St… I believe we can beat anyone else and who knows… if we did see one of Texas/Ohio St… we’re playing with house money and got nothing to lose so you never know.

We have the makings of the best and deepest receiver group that ever took the field. Probably the very best TE in the land and a QB who has become very heady, has a great first step, elusive and fast, a super good arm and a calm composure.
By the end of season we won't have freshmen on the field. Everyone will have a year of college football under their belts and our depth on both sides of the ball can keep our starters fairly fresh and ready to roll.
I'm not buying into the tripe of doubting this team or our coaching staff.
