I was very surprised to find out that the pitchers were throwing in the upper 80’s - low 90’s. I guess I was thinking it was going to be more of a “Globe Trotter” exhibition, but it was a lot more baseball than I expected. Maybe Coach Bakich could check on anybody with some eligibility left?!
Most of them played high level baseball. Some Power 4 guys in the mix too. There’s a few guys who play for them now that played in the ACC and when they played the scrimmage against Clemson in the fall they’d show a clip of that guy playing at DKS as a college player player. I think you’d probably see arm injuries and stuff if they were out there goofing off on the mound. I think they try to pound the zone a lot more and avoid waste pitches to keep the game moving along, but most of them are actually decent pitchers/players.
We went to Savannah last year to see a game and one of the players told his story of how he became a Banana. Said he was at Florida and asked to be a relieve pitcher. So he gets called into the game and starts pitching. He said after his first live pitch he looked at the scoreboard and it showed the speed. He told himself he could do better. Did the same after the second pitch. Third pitch he blew his elbow out. Now he's playing for the Bananas.
