Yeah. A low priced, monthly subscription service that they can use to get more "reoccurring" NIL money coming into the collective. People will likely sign up just to get the car decal to feel included. Most people once they sign up, just forget and it becomes a monthly draw so that it becomes reoccurring income for the program.
College football has gone the way of streaming services, IT cloud storage, car washes, and storage units..
I am a little surprised the lowest level was not $10, but looks like they are trying to stay under the $20 mark. If they can get 10-20k fans signed up thats, 1-2 million dollars. Looking at our 110 Society page, we have a $110 dollar annual membership level. So its a similar tactic.
I still think overall this is not sustainable at the levels needed to pay for some of the ridiculous amounts of money that are being "paid" out to players. I live in gamecock country where they use the portal more than Clemson. And I have several friends that I work with that are USC fans. They are constantly talking about the portal, and who they are getting, and what they are spending. And I engage in the topic with them as friendly as I can. But before we move off of the topic, I do politely inquire if they are sending money to their collective. Which so far, has been a resounding no. Sometimes they are laughing about it when they say it. But I have not came across a contributor yet.
To me this is the key part. People may be excited/ and very positive about NIL, and paying college players, etc. But who are the people/ fans that are actually doing it? I noticed that there is not a membership count on the 110 Society Page. I have a feeling if fans were pouring in, they would advertise this. I get that there are some really wealthy people out there that want to win, and have the disposable income to participate. But one common characteristic I know about Rich people, is that they are typically smart, and tight with money. Thats how they ended up getting it to begin with. So unless some very tangible transactional benefits comes out of NIL, I dont see it being sustainable long term. But I also recognize I am more of a Bear than a Bull when it comes to money topics.
I am still trying to sort through my feelings about the whole "NIL" environment. Part of me wants to be excited for the players. Good for them for making some money. But then part of me still reverts back to why people are willing to pay money to a young adult that has such a limited track record of success. When I look at investments, I look at the 5 and 10year information. ITs just wild to me that we are so quick to want to offer up money for such an unproven product.
Anway, this word salad is gotten long enough..
Go Tigers, Beat Texas!

I won't give a dime to any school. My family's financial future is way more important than a football game. I'll watch, I'll buy a few merch items, but that's it.

Exactly. I have plenty of money, but I will not waste it. I would much rather it go towards the betterment of my family and community.

Nevermind that NIL donations are not tax deductible.
I give to my alma mater and I'll donate to TCU when i'm done with my MBA but the thought of giving to some 19 year old for playing football while they already receive upwards of 100k in benefits from free education room, food, etc etc not to mention the connections made nobody else is privy to at that stage of life. I just find it hard to care.

won't join Elon Musk's X.
So, I'll just have to imagine what those elitist fans had to say. College athletics has moved so far away from everything I loved about it that I'm really considering cutting all ties.
The NFL is what it is. Professional entertainment is not what I ever dreamed the NCAA would ever represent. NIL has already gone too far. Player unions, collective bargaining and strikes is right around the corner. It saddens me. It sickens me.

Everybody feeling the negative effects of NIL except those from big schools with deep pockets. The other thing it is doing is taking away the depth of players schools have. Players don’t want to sit on the bench when they can get more playing time and a bigger paycheck. I can’t say I blame them. I will say that there needs to be a cap on this or there will be only a select few schools playing in championships year in and year out. That will get old and only fans of those schools will want to tune in. If there was a cap, I am sure schools would find ways to get them more $$ like before NIL. Sad state of affairs.

College football is a cash cow now for: Players Coaches Broadcasters/Media
There is more money for everyone as long as the fans keep footing the bill. It can be dang near a mortgage payment to take two kids to a college game these days and it’s only going to get worse. And now more is needed on top of that.
