Coach was already annoyed at the explanation the ump gave him in regards to the 3rd base coach making contact with 2 runners in the previous half of the inning. You are probably right about slugging him!

I think that the ultimate answer is that Coach finally just "had it" with him, what with the explanation of the Keystone Cops/# Stooges mess at third, missing the initial call on the foul ball/HBP and then missing it again on replay. Coach continued to push the issue long after it became clear that the ump was not going to change. I am not sure what explanation the ump used for the disqualification - arguing balls and strikes, language (if Coach said anything to him which could be considered demeaning, no matter how well deserved), or, probably, in reality, showing the thin-skinned ump up for incompetence. Have you ever noted how quick incompetent umps are to toss anyone questioning their calls - it's simply a way for them to "change the subject." I THINK that Coach was pointing out the bruise and wanted the ump to look at it, to prove that the call was wrong - and the ump viewed that (correctly) as showing him up - which was the only choice that Coach had since clear evidence (replay) would not convince him. Ump's conduct (allowing ego to affect outcome of game) SHOULD be subject to review by head of officials, and league office - but it won't be. R/TLM

That little sawed off Home Plate umpire last night was one of the worst I have ever seen and there have been some bad ones the past few years in the ACC. This moron had no strike zone consistency and he was liable to call a pitch 6 inches outside a strike then call a fastball down the middle a ball. That myopic dude needs to go back to raising chickens.
