B1G vs. SEC, does it really make a difference.

Probably won't happen in my lifetime, but there is a lot of speculation that in the not too distant future there will be somewhere around 48 to 64 schools where the football programs break away from NCAA regulation and form their own "association" with completely different governing rules.

When that happens is it possible those those, let's say just for sake of explanation, that 56 schools break away. Could those 56 schools set up a structure different from "B1G and SEC"? Could they just ditch those two names (for football only) and set up 8 divisions of 7 teams each and put members in those divisions into a more geographically reasonable division? Each division would have 6 teams they play every year and then have some system, similar to NFL scheduling, where they play the rest of their games against teams from the other divisions?

Just a thought. If it happened, then after a few years in the B1G (assuming that is where Clemson ends up) it wouldn't matter because everything would be reshuffled.

Good possibility, but the current dynamic is ESPN (SEC) vs. Fox (B1G). In your speculated division - who gets the TV rights?

They share it, just like NFL and NBA and MLB and PGA Tour does.

Different games on different networks.

For now, "it would make a difference"!

If the BIG 10 opportunity came; take it. More money in terms of payout.

Long-term; exactly what you said, "maybe not in my lifetime(i'm 52) but perhaps one day that merger happens. I don't think it would go how people think; but it will likely happen.

Get the money beforehand in other words - so it would matter! Clemson is still a smallish school with a smallish alumni base. Take the money when you can get it. Plus, the Big 10 has an outstanding academic standard you would then be able to boast about and help add to an already outstanding resume.

I don't think Big10 money is going to overpower SEC money long term. Culture matters. Clemson is a close cousin to several SEC schools and between the two choices is obviously where we "belong".

All other things equal, I can't understand the appeal of the Big10 for Clemson. We have NOTHING in common with Minnesota, Rutgers, or Washington. As a matter of fact, none of those schools have anything in common with each other either.

In your dream, the conferences would be the big winners. If you think the ACC, Big10, Big12 and SEC just open the door and let schools take their football teams and run, I some property to sell you. This is a non starter.
