B1G Outflanks SEC?

By accident or not, if ( that's a BiG IF) the B1G adds 4 southern teams, would it have outflanked the SEC and become the premier conference? Particularly if FSU, Clemson and UNC are 3 of those 4? I think so.

College teams and everybody watches college sports. Up north a lot of them watch more professional than college. Guess I should look up stats to see if I’m right but I’m too lazy. Just feel that southern folks are a little bit more fanatical about their teams and everybody in Alabama for instance is watching a college football game on Saturday but not everybody in Pennsylvania is

Philly folks? Heck no! Fair share in Pittsburgh follow Pitt but not substantial, certainly not close to the Steelers. But a lot of rural folks folks middle to western side do follow PSU and are passionate. A lot of good folks in those areas too.

absolutely... ESPN (SEC) is in a tough spot

Disney is cash poor, and there is not really anything left that adds value to the SEC/ESPN contract (maybe UNC)...


When the B1G gets into the South, their next contract could dwarf the SEC. If they are not already doing so, the SEC needs to work with the B1G and pursue the "Power 2".

The B1G has the upper hand for sure. Although, I will say... we don't know yet what TX and OU will bring. That was the SEC shooting their shot. B1G can go West (they did), and they will soon go South.

FOX smells blood at ESPN.

States and geography no longer matter. TV markets are irrelevant.
The current market valuations are based on viewers, regardless of location.
What attract sporting event viewers? Winning.
