Auburn's talent

Sep 2, 2016, 11:18 AM

Are they as talented as we are basically outside of QB and WR? Are they better in any areas?

on paper, based on recruit rankings they should probably be better at DE.

I'm keying in on their center, Xavier Dampeer, all night long against our defensive interior...

In the offseason, Auburn moved their starting center, Austin Golson, out to offensive tackle and moved Xavier in to center. He missed all of last year (11 months) after getting his jaw broken by his own teammate in a bar fight (WR - D.Williams) and has only seen action in 4 games as backup since 2014. Given the vast responsibility of the center position, his lack of gametime experience, and the force of our defensive interior, this will be something to watch for sure.

Looking forward to it.

Great info there that I haven't heard anywhere else

Sep 2, 2016, 5:08 PM [ in reply to Re: Looks like their D is possibly equal or better, but a way... ]

From what I've seen from Malzahn's offense over the past few years, the center gets help from one of the guards against the NT/NG on most of the strongside runs between the tackles. IMO, the biggest question will be how well he is able to make the calls at the line to adjust the blocking for blitzing LB's and Safeties. With the way that Venables loves to send Ben firing up through the A Gap on potential passing downs, I think we will be able to have some success there.

It will definitely be interesting to see how well he can adjust to our stunts and blitzes.

A lot of their WRs are under 6 feet, which is good for us. All starters are 5'9" or shorter.

Im betting that they are better than UT, but then, who isn't?

No wonder UT is upset because the Tigers are getting the best talent out of the state of Tenn.

They sure need a LOT of help.

I didn't get to watch that game, but looking at Dobbs stat line, either he is garbage, his receivers are garbage, or some combination of those two.

You can't blame those TN kids that come to Clemson. We are the real WideReceiver U and they have a chance to win a championship.

Re: Auburn's talent

Honestly, I feel (at least on paper and from past production) we are better than them on offense as a while and at LB due to the fact that they had to replace all 3 starters from last year. I'll say it's a push on the DL based on talent alone. Not sure about the secondary yet but I heard this QB we have is pretty good (haha) and might even be better than that Dobbs kid in Tennessee ??

Auburn has some stellar parts; we'll soon see how well...

Gus and his staff get them to play together?

The list is interactive, clicky on STARS[or other] to make the magic happen.

My take

Sep 2, 2016, 11:51 AM

Auburn has skill everywhere. Their D-Line is outstanding. If they have a weakness on defense, it'll be in the secondary; and in particular their CBs. I suspect Steele will run a lot of DIME defense and rely heavily on that D-Line to create pressure and stop the run. Those CBs will need help over the top by the safeties, so Clemson should be able to consistently gain 4-5 yards on the ground, if they can navigate that big D-Line for Auburn. Classic 'bend but don't break' approach by Kevin Steele has the potential to keep AU in the game until Q4.

On offense, they have a very good O-Line and should be able to move the ball on the ground. Gus will do what Gus does with a lot of misdirection and motions to try to create mismatches. I suspect they'll get some favorable matchups with as much as Venables likes to blitz. Auburn has a lot of speed and will get some chunk plays. Their QB White is very good, as a game manager-type QB, but can also be accurate down the field.

Auburn has the talent to play with anyone. It seems they lack significant depth, however. I don't think Clemson just shows up, wins by 30 and gets on the bus home. This will be a 4-Quarters football game with a lot of talent on the field for both squads.
