I guess I live in a glass house - and I can't throw stones at any 18 yo kid for being intoxicated in public. IMO - if you're old enough to die for your country, you should be allowed to drink (okay - not in public ... maybe). :)

is anything like Clemson, you've got to be doing some pretty wild stuff to get busted for public intoxication. I've only known one guy to ever have that happen and he was passed out in some bushes.

i don't see why you say an 18 year old should not have the right to vote. 18 is the trigger age in this country where an adolescent becomes an adult. it is the civic duty of all adults to voice their opinions in political matters. if you are 18 your opinion officially matters. if you should decide not to vote then (first) shame on you, and (second) that is your prerogative. if you disagree with the political opinions of 18 year old kids then i understand why you would prefer them not to vote, but i disagree in your word chioce there of "should not be allowed to vote." if we were denying the rights of others to vote b/c we did not appreciate their opinions then i wouldn't allow democrats to vote and democrats wouldn't allow me to vote... we wouldn't get very far.

18 is the legal trigger... 18 should be the legal voting age. i think it should be the legal drinking age too, but one thing at a time.

just an opinion. i'm ok with agreeing to disagree with you regarding your opinion.

you'll understand when you're older

i appreciate the respect and reasonable comments. but i also respectfully disagree.

except for rare occasions, 18 year olds have only had things handed to -- education, health care, food, shelter, the works. from their parents or the state. there's nothing wrong with that. it's the way it should be. families need to provide for their kids.

but it's not a good, rounded perspective for picking leaders or understanding public policy.

they don't know what it means to work (though they think they do). they don't know what it means to provide. they don't understand any long-term consequences for their decisions, because their political awareness rarely extends beyond the sitting president. again, nothing wrong with that. but i think people should grow up first, and understand the consequences of government, before they vote. learn what it means to be independent, self reliant, and responsible. then vote.

cheers. . .

i will partially agree that the perspective of younger people can be limited. however, by the time i was 18 i had spent 8 years or more watching the national and local nightly news. perhaps i am one of the few that was lucky enough to have parents that cared about raising a politically involved citizen. if it happened to me then there are more out there like me.

so, here we stand at an impasse... agreeing to disagree lol. Go Tigers!
