We don't have any practice or interviews today, so that allows me to actually stay home and haunt the message boards and do a little opponent research. For those that haven't heard, Nikki tore her Achilles last week in New York, so she's been a little limited this week. Dabo mentioned her toughness during interviews last night after she hobbled all the way from the parking lot to Jervey Meadows on crutches.

Anyway, on to Auburn.

Had someone down there tell me that in his opinion Sean White actually leads for the QB job. He is limited in what he can do from a read-option standpoint, so even if he wins the job I think we will see Franklin in there in the Wildcat or some package.

Now, it wasn't until doing some research that I realized just how for Auburn has fallen off since making a title run in 2013. Here are some facts:

Since starting out 4-1 in conference play in 2014, Malzahn is just 2-9 in the SEC. Since starting 7-1 that season, they are just 8-10 overall and have struggled against even what should be inferior competition. If you remember, sources down that way were saying Will Muschamp wanted out as soon as possible and would have taken another defensive coordinator's job had South Carolina no come calling.

And when it comes to their main competition in the SEC, I found out that some of their biggest wins have been of the rather miraculous variety. And when the luck runs out, so do the wins:

If not for the Prayer in Jordan-Hare, Malzahn would be 0-3 against the Georgia program that just fired Mark Richt to hire Kirby Smart. If not for the Kick Six, Malzahn might be 0-3 against Smart, Nick Saban and Alabama. In any case, Malzahn's Tigers will enter the 2016 season on a two-game losing streak to each of their chief antagonists.

And to Mississippi State, too. If not for a last-minute come-from-behind drive in 2013 against State, Malzahn would be 0-3 against Dan Mullen and the Bulldogs.

Will be interesting to see how they fare this season, and how they do against Clemson.
