COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

A man accused of shoplifting Gamecock jerseys picked the wrong store for a quick getaway.

Shontel Evans Peterson, 24, was arrested Thursday and charged with shoplifting and resisting arrest. He is accused of trying to steal two University of South Carolina jerseys from the Walmart on Garners Ferry Road.

At the time, officers from the Columbia Police Department were at the front of the store collecting donated school supplies. Columbia Police say as Peterson ran from the store, the officers chased him down and caught him before he could get into his car.

Police say he threw the jerseys to the ground.

I bet if they would have let him get to the car, the Clown was probably sitting inside smokin a doobie and waiting with sharpie in hand! Could have arrested two chumps instead of one!
