The CFB playoff "committee"

Oct 20, 2015, 7:53 PM

How in the world did college football come to this?

The whole idea that a COMMITTEE gathers and decides who gets to play for the national championship is absurd.

Re: The CFB playoff "committee"

Oct 20, 2015, 7:54 PM

i agree. bring back the BCS

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Really? We have a chance to make the playoff this year.

Oct 20, 2015, 9:26 PM

If we still had the BCS system, we would have virtually no chance of making the national championship game.

Except we are #1 in computer polls that use BCS formula...***

Oct 20, 2015, 7:54 PM

Which is why we need 8.

At lest we have Dan there to kick ### when he comes back in

the room if needed

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I know right ... tell it to the basketball folks.

Oct 20, 2015, 8:12 PM

Only thing they got wrong was 4 teams.

While you're trying to fix things, tell the ACC that they need to fix the divisions.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don't think the issue is the divisions...

Oct 20, 2015, 8:40 PM

The ACC does a good job at divisions with what it has. And what it has is 10 basketball schools and 4 football schools. Of which they have 2 football schools in each division. It just so happens the two in the coastal suck...

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Consistently ... ??? 4 football schools is

Oct 20, 2015, 9:37 PM

pushing it. We need at least 4 who are ranked in the top 25 on a somewhat regular basis to boast that.

Tell why. Never propose changes without solid reasons.

Meh ... shush.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Is it really worse than letting polls decide who plays?***

Oct 20, 2015, 9:14 PM

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Is there a difference?

Oct 21, 2015, 6:47 AM

There's none according to the short history of the PO system.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpgringofhonor-clemsontiger1988-110.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Well we had a computer rankings system, and people didn't

Oct 20, 2015, 9:32 PM

like that.

Oct 21, 2015, 12:28 AM

a bunch of jackazzes { (committee of sports writers) } decided who played for the Champ except only 2 teams instead of 4 ????

Oh - I see what you did there ... ... ...

Human arrogance/ignorance...

Oct 21, 2015, 12:33 AM

Because of course we've always been smarter than computers and those preseason polls always turn out great...

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

If computers wrote their own programs...

Oct 21, 2015, 6:44 AM

assigned weight to their own metrics and were never contaminated by the money involved in the outcomes of the results of their selections I'd be all about computers.

If the program writers were rewarded only by the accuracy of their program to select teams for limited playoff seeds I'd be all about human participation in the exercise. A statistician can 'statistically,' prove anything he wants to prove.

Matter of fact, a junior level statistics course teaches nothing past being able to see through bullchit in statistical reports. It only make one aware of the terminology of such a report and look for the different factors which are pertinent in fair, useful findings and evaluations and thereby eliminate those which are not.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpgringofhonor-clemsontiger1988-110.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

perfect scenario would be 4 power conferences w winner of each going to playoffs

Oct 21, 2015, 6:27 AM

Takes human bias completely out. You can even throw in some rule that if a conf champ has more than three losses and there is a top ten ranked non power conf team then they will replace that conf champ in playoffs

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I am chairman of a committee...

Oct 21, 2015, 6:50 AM

We get things done....eventually.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

This committee is a lot more legitimate than previous

Oct 21, 2015, 6:51 AM

attempts like the BCS, or, heaven forbid, just the polls. I probably put more thought into the Pick 6 each week than some of the pollsters do their votes.

Re: This committee is a lot more legitimate than previous

Oct 21, 2015, 6:54 AM

I'm certainly not lobbying for what we had before. We need a legitimate playoff just like every other sport.

Over half the teams in FBS go into the season knowing they have no shot at playing for a national championship.
