Potential replacements for Garrett Riley

Let's all admit the truth here. Garrett Riley is not a good offensive coordinator. He hasn't won one meaningful game against a ranked opponent with his signature "air raid" offense. His playbook seems to be written in crayon. Even when he was being touted at TCU, once he came across a good team in UGA, he was boatraced

I say all that to ask this. In the event Riley is fired, who should we get to replace him?

Let me guess, you have chimed in on replacing Wes but don't care that our offense has been stagnant under Riley....7 whole points in 3 1/2 quarters against a below average Louisville team. 3 points against Georgia and let's face it, Georgia ain't really that great

Can you explain why you are okay with this lack of offensive production when we play teams with a pulse?

No. I was using the fpi power rankings. I guess depending upon what argument you are making you can use any “ranking” you want. League standings, defense rank of the opponent, etc. don’t be a smart ### and think the ranking you used is gold standard.

I used fpi because standings are not necessarily reflective of where you stand because you only play a subset of the entire league. I know you always have to win an argument, your just that way, so this will be my last post on this topic

You're an idiot. I get #### all the time for being a realist about Clemson, but using fake FPI rankings instead of the real standings is the height of stupidity.

Which apparently is what our Tigers run regardless of the OC, so why pay somebody too much money to run the vanilla scheme ??

I can read that play sheet and call those plays in, I start the bid at $250K...huge savings for the team and University

His name was Jeff Scott. Offense has not looked anywhere near the same since he left. Not due to play calling, it goes much deeper than that. Starting with his ability to develop WR talent.

So you want to get rid of GR, but can't even come up with a name or two as replacement? Good grief...

I doubt he cares. Someone will hire him fast.

but yall ended up getting the offense going after a shaky September. This year has me back to my original opinion. Todd Monken was a big loss. I think he had alot to do with Georgia getting over the hump and winning those two titles.

GR is calling the same stuff here he did at TCU. The difference is Max Dugan would scramble and and he and his receivers made things happen.
Our offense was looking much better until Louisville and it looked too much like the offense of the past 4 years

I get your point. I go back and forth on GR. A few games after GA the calls looked pretty good. Then we went conservative against FSU and it seems like we’ve stayed in that funk a little bit.

I have no idea what last Saturday was all about. We reverted back to bubble screens and the East-West sidelines nonsense.

I guess I want to see the rest of the season shake out. If we don’t make progress against the better teams on our schedule then something definitely has to change.

Nicky you are a joke. Riley had your "air raid offense" at TCU but they were playing different competition and had a different makeup. Our offense is very good this year and will be better in the future. We are 5th in the nation in total offense and 9th in points per game and you think Riley does not know what he is doing. Wow.

We throw too many screens. The 3rd and 18 (dropped) screen pass had me yelling at the TV.
The offense has improved this year overall, but for some reason they reverted to plain vanilla against Louisville.
I have no clue what the defense is doing, but it is very inconsistent, and was just bad vs the Cards. Not ready to say Wes needs to go, but he needs a talking to from somebody. Anyone seen Tyler From Spartanburg?

Personally think GR stays. Offense is definitely much improved over a yr ago! And Cade is MILES better!! If there is a replacement however, I think it's already on staff. Richardson ran a ridiculously prolific offense at 1 of the biggest schools in the state! I think that's where Dabo goes next

I had not paid attention before about the very limited (if at all) use of the OL cut blocking in the GR offense.

The OC decides when cut blocking is part of any given play.

As we saw in LOUngame, the cut block8ng on short, quick routes gives the QB superior visibility to see the WR / RB / TE routes develop -&- provides the QB with unobstructed path to deliver the football.

For CK2, like most QBs that must throw between gaps in the DL that the OL create by their blocking scheme, seeing the WRs is not easy, and is therefore slow unless the primary target gets open quickly. Then, CK2 must navigate his throw through the lane in the DL. If the lane doesn’t get created, then an unsuccessful play is l8kely.

I wonder if Dabo and GR will utilize more (or some) cut-blocking in our quick routes as we finish up the schedule.

I doesn't matter who's coaching at Clemson. We have to recruit better and start developing our talent. Coaching is about the jimmy's and the joe's. Clemson has been sliding down hill since 2020 and we're picking up steam fast.
