that want to condemn my post, ask yourself this...if he was guilty of two incidents related to weed while he was at Clemson, what would have happened to him? That's right, he would have been off the team. He needs help, he's jeopardizing his future, he doesn't need to be coaching high school kids.

he has a purpose and realize that he can do great things AND feel better by giving back and helping others.
When one is struggling with a personal battle, sitting around alone is the absolute last thing that they need to be doing. Taking on some responsibility and putting himself out there with these kids is probably exactly what he needs.
And I'm sure they can look past his mistakes and learn from them as long as he is able to straighten himself out.

I am with you! If the problem is depression, maybe he needs that sense of purpose more than anything. Like what he is doing has meaning. Coaching kids and teaching them has to be rewarding.

You mean more of a sense of purpose than representing his & my University & showing why a Clemson Man truly needs no introduction ?
You mean more of a sense of purpose than representing his family & friends & hometown & using his God given gifts to their fullest for the very few, short years he will be able to do it ?
Wish MB nothing but the best & hope he gets what he needs to be as successful as he wants to be. He is a Tiger, no matter what.
As a parent - I'm pretty sure I wouldn't want my young adult coached by someone with his known, CURRENT, issues.
I realize that ANY coach could be a Sandusky, etc with all kinda crap in the closet - but this is a widely publicized story of depression & poor choices in following the rules.
Have him come and give a talk & warn of the dangers & shake some hands & get some pixs made, etc. but to be a coach - not so sure if I would want that for my kid.
And why Henderson / Las Vegas ? Family out there ? Counseling out there ? Just curious - seems a long way from home.

miss the point that interaction with others may actually be part of a rehab plan - and who better to interact with but high school players? Also, your other comments about money and representing family, friends and his school are out of line as depression can result in isolation and such despair that all things in life lose their sense of value. He did make a huge mistake by continuing drug use , but if it was only for marijuana, you, as a parent, may want to homeschool your kids because of the number of educators and high school kids who abuse that without having to be drug-tested - and you are "not sure you want that for" your kid.

You are passionate about this and I don't blame you. But I have seen what depression can do to a person. I have had people in my life make choices that could have destroyed themselves, their families, and their careers.
I am disappointed that he felt a need to use any drugs to cope. That he either did not or could not find help to deal with the depression. But, I don't know his circumstances and feel little need to be judgemental. He is out of the NFL for a year.....nothing that can be done to change that now. Maybe he can find something to be passionate about for the next year while he trys to get things straightened out.
My 2 cents.....take them for what they are worth.

There has got to be more to this story than just simply smoking weed, even if on multiple occasions. Athletes at that level are crazy to smoke or drink with so much at stake, but in the end, it's their body and their life. A full year seems ridiculous. I must be missing something.

Yes he needs to follow the rules of the NFL. No question about that. But the NFL ban on pot needs to go. Funny thing about him having depression, doctors have proved that pot can help with depression and in states that have medicinal pot doctors prescribe it to patients with depression. There is even research now that is showing pot might help with CTE. Total hypocrisy by the NFL on this one. It's ok for a player to be addicted to dangerous pain killers which have terrible side effects, but a plant with many medicinal uses (which humans have been using for medicine for 5000 years) and whose only possible negative side effect is on people who start using in there early teens or preteen years, is a banned substance that carries a stiffer penalty than domestic violence

I have no opinion on weed, it doesn't affect me. Legalize or don't - I don't care.
But MB knew the rules. He knew if he got caught doing this one more time, he would get suspended for an entire season. And then he did it anyway.
There are other ways to cope with depression that aren't specifically stated by your employer to be off limits.
What MB did was borderline ignorant (and stupid).

Whether it's pot or an anti depressant. Both of which treat depression. It's one drug we are talking about here, not crack or meth. And like I said before humans have used pot for medicine for 5000 years. Oh and antidepressants have more negative side effects than pot, which only has one that's been proven

I stated MB should have followed the rules, but the NFL rules on this are hypocritical and I gave reasons why it is. I said it was ridiculous, on part of the NFL, because MB will get suspended longer for this than Greg Hardy got for brutally pistol whipping a woman. So my comments were more about the NFL, which was pretty clear considering I stated that MB should have followed the rules. Of course maybe you think smoking a doobie is worse than pistol whipping a women.
Why can't people on here read the whole post and understand something that is clearly stated, instead of missing the point and have to be retold pretty much in the same words what's it about. So just to make it clear for you, yes you have to follow the rules as a player no matter what, but the suspension is ridiculous because of the hypocrisy of the NFL. As I pointed out with how the NFL deals with highly addictive pain killers and domestic violence

The main point is .... It is not legal at this time. Most would agree that it is much less harmful that most drugs but it's a no no, therefore don't jeopardize your career by using it. Smoking pot is much better than carring around an assault rifle but one is ok and one isn't. Ain't America great?

They did not hire him.....he is volunteering. As for why they would want him around? He is someone who can reinforce to students the need to make good choices and that includes staying away from drugs of any kind.
I guess I think that these kids could learn about football and a few important life lessons.
