Hindustan Times - May 10 article re US mediator - India/Pakistan ceasefire talks

Mediators don’t force either / both sides to come to peace / ceasefire agreements. Instead, they get the two antagonists to communicate directly with each other, and to create an atmosphere of less emotions and more pragmatism.

It’s hardly (I.e., not) over, but it’s a big step forward. Nice work, Rubio and Vance.

Hopefully this holds, but there can be no doubt that this deescalation is a good thing and credit to Rubio and Vance for their efforts.

it is not, this has been a problem waiting to happen, both countries, India especially, will be facing
lot of problems down the road if you believe in that climate change thing. Inida which is still rapidly industrializing, knows it is facing potential water shortages, and controlling the Kashmir region means you control the water flow into both countries, India recently cut off the supply to Pakistan which was viewed as an act of terroism.. This would be like Canada and the US getting into a nuclear stalemate over the Great Lakes ( a shared resource) under a scenario where both countries were facing rising population, drought, and food shortages.

As noted in my OP - this is a start not the end

India and Pakistani had attempted power economics, followed almost immediately by limited scope military activities.

What they had not been doing was talking with each other.

Mediation is a process in which a third party somehow gets two antagonists to talk with each other. Talking with each other, in the presence of a referee, is among the best approaches to get both sides to think instead of emoting and posturing. If the talking devolves into recriminatory rhetoric, then the mediator intercedes to (hopefully) calm things down.

You know that this Vance / Rubio driven mediation is a positive step.

India says the negotiations were direct, not through Rubio, Vance, and Shitzenpants. Who could imagine the world's biggest liar taking credit for something falsely. For the record, I don't believe anything out of that f*cker's mouth.

He will also tell you Donald is the most brilliant man in the world and deserves the Nobel Peace Prize. These are the things you have to do to stay on good terms with a lunatic.
