What is the general consensus on TDP?

Has he been considered a good or poor athletic director? I'm sure there will be verying oppinions on this but I'm trying to get a feel of what we are losing.
Would be nice to know that we will "level up" for this position.

He had some rough times (the bowden extension) but I think he is ending on a good note.
The Chad Morris extension that rivaled Ohio St, Getting Brent V, The indoor practice facility and other upgrades, hiring Brownell. All good things in my opinion.

Like many others, I have been hard on TDP in the past.

But I think it's clear his hands were tied for much of his time here. I don't really know what happened, but Clemson athletics took a turn for the better almost immediately after the Tigers lost to USF in Charlotte. They started spending money and made a real commitment to football, not just lip service.
I think overall TDP has done a pretty good job.

with the powers that be. He did a decent job on the finances. His negatives were contract negotiations (just terrible), olympic sports, no help in fundraising, and showed no vision or leadership to push getting things done. The relationship between IPTAY and the athletic department is not particularly good at this point either. Mixed record on coaching hires. TDP = Bobby Robinson.

Look at our facilities now compared to 12 years ago.

Brought in 2 solid basketball coaches, took a good chance on Dabo. Student athletes graduate. My knock is not being more aggressive in ticket sales and sponsorship revenue. Definitely an upgrade from Bobby Robinson.

The good: Hired 2 really good basketball coaches. Dramatic facillities upgrades.
The bad: Let TB stay a few years too long. Many non-revenue sports have floundered (what happened to our once great soccer program?).
Still to be determined: Hiring Dabo as HC.
Personally, I think the Dabo hire was a good one. I think TDP saw qualities he liked in Dabo, qualities that, in spite of his lack of experience, would be key in leading and building a football program for the long term. As much as I like Dabo, and as much as I believe he is the right guy, he still has things to accomplish to prove that TDP's decision was the right one. I don't think it's a stretch to say that TDP's legacy depends on Dabo.

We were 2 years removed from the sweet 16 and 3 from a final 4 bid when Adair had his incident only months before the season. He had to essentially let the season flounder with an interim, then go get Noonan afterwards.

passion for success that they had for their Tigers, and TDP doesn't bring that to the table. That doesn't make him good or bad, but it made many fans less supportive of him.
The man has performed admirably in generating funds and utilizing them to upgrade facilities. There is no comparison between the facilities before he came here and the facilities now.
He gets knocked a lot for the CTB extension, but I don't think that's fair. Many at the time of the extension would have thought that we were on the cusp of great success. Not sure how we folded after that, but I don't blame TDP for wanting to keep Bowden. Continuity is very important in coaching.
His Men's basketball hires were stellar. OP was great and I really like Brownell so far.
I was concerned for a while that he was going to eliminate the tradition of running on to the field after the game, and I am glad he didn't. I don't need my Clemson administrators to come from "within the family", but I develop a healthy distain for them if they come from outside and start screwing with tradition.
He brought the Women's Rowing team into existance and they became top competitors quickly. I give him credit for not going through the motions on that and hope that we see the same with the women's gold program.
Overall I'm very happy with his efforts. I would like the next AD to spread the attention around a bit. I love Clemson football. We should be "football first", but we must be careful that we don't become "football only." I'm not saying that happened under TDP, but our soccer programs should both (men and women) be national contenders every year, and our men's track program has declined significantly.

More bad than good. He fired Jim Davis, Bob Pollock and Trevor Adair. He ended up with two good basketball coaches, but he was very fortunate his first choice on each of these hires (Tim Floyd and Rick Stansbury) turned him down. They both have proven to be disasters. The jury is still out on Dabo. Could go either way. The improvement of facilities is his biggest positive.

I like how he has handled the BB and FB programs and of course our facilities, which is in large part why he was brought here to begin with. I think we have had some major misses in the other sports though. I do like the recent MSoc hire though.
Overall I am glad to have had him here.

my post about the relationship with IPTAY and AD. It is very strained right now under TDP's watch although the IPTAY powers are just as responsible. Think about trying to have a comprehensive financial plan and having no control over the funding source for a large part of it as far as the capital contributions from IPTAY.
