Are we still a developmental program?

If we are, then hiring the best, most qualified coaches with a track record of developing players would seem to be necessary if that is the type of program you want to run.

This is the reason along with disturbing the culture on why Dabo has said he has not utilized the portal more often. However, each new class of 20 freshmen has the potential of negatively impacting your culture depending on the kids. We have several kids over Dabo’s tenure that were culture misses.

My point is that your coaching hires have to match with your developmental mindset. Dabo has hired young, inexperienced coaches that were former players that he wants to bring along in coaching. The problem is you can’t be a developmental program for players and coaches. If you do, you are most likely to get the results we are seeing today. It has been coming for 3 years.

Dabo has to decide what type of program he wants because either clean house with your staff to get more experienced coaches that can better develop players or begin using the portal to create more legitimate competition. Our players are playing sloppy, undisciplined football that is a result of the decisions that Dabo has made over the last several years.

I think Dabo needs to do both of these, but I think that would be too much self reflection at one time for him these days.
