Are we actually going to kick off to the Shamecocks....

Nov 19, 2012, 2:47 PM

or just kick it out of the endzone each time? After last Saturday, I'm afraid of what could happen...

good question and I still haven't got a concrete answer on

Nov 19, 2012, 2:49 PM

if we are intentionally kicking to the 5'ish yard line all the time or we just don't have the leg to get it out.

I'd really like an official answer from a Coach on this. One of the possible 2 answers is not good, not good at all.

Both kickers have the leg...

But for some reason, especially Benton, they seem to be getting under the ball too much.

Don't you think it MIGHT have something to do with WHO we are kicking to? If there's no serious threat, you can kick to the 5 and try to stop them prior to the 25. If there's a threat, then you need to kick it to the EZ if possible. We can do that pretty often, so sometimes it appears that we kick it short on purpose.

Both kickers can ick touchbacks, but it is a tactic

to kick it to the goal line to try and force a return so you can stop the returner short of the 25 yard line which is what they get with a touchback.

I understand the tactic and have seen it work several times this year where we tackle the runner between the 15 and 20. What I don't get is like last Saturday when the coverage is bad just kick it out don't keep tempting fate. Kick coverage is a feel thing and i personally would try it a few times to pin them deeper but if the coverage isn't doing well bite the bullet and give them the 25!

Make it idjit proof and someone will make a better idjit.

Don't understand why we should worry about kickoffs with both kickers being able to kick it thru the end zone. KO returns should not be an issue but for some reason, the kickers have not been able to consistently kick it thru. Kicking to Sanders IS NOT an option though. He more dangerous than the kid from NCSU in my opinion.

Sanders doesn't return kickoffs and

after their return game started doing well we kicked a few into the endzone. The 80 yard return was after an offsides penatly when the ball went into the end zone.

deep in the end zone.

We were obviously trying to get touchbacks.

Benton wasn't doing it well. Had he been kicking it the way they wanted, they wouldn't have replaced him with Pinion.
