Some perspective on how bad that performance was

Since the shot clock was instituted in 1986, the tournament has featured 2,834 games. That means there have been 5,668 halves. Since each half of basketball includes two teams, in terms of this discussion there have really been 11,366 halves since teams lost the ability to hold the ball indefinitely. Of all those, this year's Tigers own the number one worst offensive performance*. Truly amazing. The icing on the cake? After managing just 13 in the first half, Brad's team came out and scored 54 in the second, and while I haven't verified this, it's highly likely that feat makes them the only team, not just in tournament history, but in modern college basketball history, to quadruple their offensive output from one half to the next. Very sad.
I would say that Brad should have spent a little more time getting his guys ready to play and a little less leveraging the Indiana situation into a new six-year contract. But focusing on numero uno didn't seem to hinder Will Wade. Regardless of exactly what went wrong, this epically terrible performance takes away from what had been an all-time great season. This team and its fans deserved better.
*I stand corrected . . . apparently, this is an evolving situation for statisticians. The Tigers appeared to have managed just the fourth worst performance.

I totally agree. But Wisconsin once scored 12 points in an NCAAT half since the inception of the shot clock. Still an embarrassing, pathetic, pitiful performance by the second coming of John Wooden.

"what had been an all-time great season"
Only because the ACC is a dumpster fire. Obviously.

I am not surprised at all that those 13 points would rank worst ever.

Yeah, upsets happen in hoops. Part of the joy of the game. But to record turd yourself for a half to earn the wrong side of that puts it in a whole new category.

And was down 43-10. Lost 79-63 after scoring 53 points in the second half.
Colorado State scored 11 last year against Texas. Last year’s tournament. Yes, last year’s ncaa tournament.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s pitiful, but I don’t like fake news and people speaking things into existence. It’s bad enough as it is.

Clemson came out in a catatonic stupor. Brownell owns that. 15 years of largely unconfident play in big games and big moments. A Brownell pattern.

Catatonic stupor is an accurate description

And you are correct - it’s the head coach’s responsibility to make sure his players are motivated and prepared for the game at hand. In that moment, Clemson collapsed.
That’s his trademark - the Brownell collapse.

You just don’t like it because it’s an accurate description of what happened Thursday afternoon… and what has happened OVER and OVER during Brownell’s career.

Unfair to say largely unconfident play in big games and big moments.

We beat Duke and Kentucky this year. We made the Elite Eight last year which included three straight wins as underdogs.
We are 5-0 in our last 5 games against top 5 teams.
Criticizing Brad for Thursday’s horrible performance is fair, but don’t make it sound like he doesn’t usually have his teams ready to play, especially in big games.

It is historically bad, regardless of rank. We expected to win, not play to win

IMO. After fervently following Clemson sports for 40 years, this one was not surprising but disappointing. 1990 UConn was shocking. The puntrooskie was heartbreaking. This one was historic. I believe Clemson basketball can attract and retain a better coach. The team has been very good the last two seasons, but mediocre throughout most of Brownell's tenure with zero hardware. The ball is in Neff's court...GO TIGERS!

How is it historic?? 32 games Thu and Fri and our 2 point loss was the closest margin of all those games. The 54 pt 2nd half should be applauded.

First half basically decided the game. We scored a bunch at the end when mcneese stopped running, but we never had a shot to win . . . because that tragic first half cemented our fate
