Anyone understand recruiting rankings?

Jan 4, 2013, 11:12 AM

Currently ESPN has the class ranked #14 but Rivals has this class at #28 and Scout has the class at #33. Any reason for concern about this year's class or does ESPN have it right?

Does ESPN go more by the average star rating cuz the other two services don't, which I never really understood.

All the recruiting services have their own rankings for each

player and then the class rankings are based on the respective player rankings.

I started to get into recruiting at one point big time, but the reality is that there is only so much credibility you can give to these rankings services.

They will get top players right a lot of the time, but there are too many "x factors" to put a whole lot of stock into the rankings as a whole. For starters, there's inequity in how many chances these evaluators get to see the kids play, and that varies based on the notoriety of the kid and HS program he plays in, the competition they are watching them against, and the list goes on.

Basically, take the top 5 classes, and those are usually pretty spot on and usually go to the alabama's and USC's, but after that it is a crapshoot and the success of a class depends far more on the type of kids they are and the coaches running their program after they get there. JMO.

Rankings mean nothing. Coaches know who the players are and go after the ones they want, no matter the stars.

They did a study at lat years Super Bowl and there were only a few 4-5 star players. Most were 2-3 and unranked.

I feel good about our class and hope we can get a few more on our board, no matter the star amount next to their name
