Anyone else miss Vic Koenning

He was the def coordinator when I was at Clemson and we at least had good to mediocre defenses every year w him. Our D would bail us out while the Offensive would putter usually around poor QB play. Now we have a great QB and the best offensive I have seen in Clemson Orange, we just also happen to have a D that may be worse than Dukes and I here everyone talking about talent but our D is mostly 4 stars w a few 5 star players mixed in. If we had a Vic Koening D or even the most mediocre of Ds that could occasionally get off the field against good teams we would be making a national title run. Next year, if we return everyone except Ellington, should be our year to make a run legitimately at a NC but we have got to get something changed on D.

Stars don't matter at this point. We're young up front except for Goodman.
No pressure up front, a terrible secondary, and that's a recipe for disaster.

Wel, if you were at Clemson when he was the DC,you should remember he got his feelings hurt because Dabo was named HC and not him. I also recall that his defense, while bailing out the offense was not what I would consider national title run contenders. No,I don't miss Koening. He was at odds with Dabo and that was not going to work. What I don't miss however,is people like you who only come out of the woodwork when things are bad.What,364 post in 5 years. Maybe you have forgotten that in the last 6 years no ACC has even played for the NC. And if I recall,Tommy and Vic's team never even made an ACC Title game. What,Dabo has 2 appearances ,and one title. And he had the guts to let go of Steele, who was no better or worse than your beloved Koening.Tommy would not have done that until he was forced to relieve some one else who was there when you were.I think his name was "Bubble Screen" Spence. So if you don't like the direction that Dabo is trying to take this program,I suggest you go pull for (hum let's see) the Dukes. They did after all win Sat.

It's not about scheme, its about players. We don't have any

right now. Unless BV makes some changes at LB and Safety, it's going to be an 8-4 season. GT are licking their chops. Heck, even BC thinks they can run on us.
I dont think having VK on our sideline last night would have changed a thing.

Just saying that we've made all these changes on defense in the last 8 yrs and progressively gotten worse. It's stupid to think of firing BV after game 4 and I never mentioned not liking the direction Dabo's taking us so not sure why getting bashed there. Dabo has taken us way past Tommy Bowden. I'm just looking at things from a purely defensive side and how much we have detoirated (meanwhile the offensive has become elite). Making changes doesn't mean firing ppl, I said change is needed and that is obvious. If you are alright with a defense that gives up 9, let me repeat 9, yards per play from scrimmage and 35 points in a quarter and a half when were up then I suggest you start cheering for Duke.

the game was on the line because the offense couldn't score in a cathouse with pocket full of hundred dollar bills.
koenning was a darn good DC for Clemson. Apparently there were some behind the scenes conflicts between him and Dabo. Maybe he felt slighted for not getting the top job. Maybe they just didn't get along.
Whatever it was, it doesn't change the fact that he fielded top 25 defenses during his entire tenure here, and if we still had defense at the level he put on the field, Clemson would be a contender for the national championship.

20-17(BC), 13-3(GT), 23-20(AU), 13-12(UMD), 16-13(BC), 10-9(GT), etc.
Yeah, the defense really cost us those games!
