Anyone else getting the same feeling re: our Team

1) We're still installing on Offense and holding back on Defense (ie. Blitz packages) and the best is yet to come? We're not polished by any stretch, but you can tell there is more to come as I feel we've played very vanilla most time, still, 8 games into the season.
2) The games we've played (vs a pretty tough schedule) and the variety of Defenses and Offenses we've played is going to serve us very well in the next month? Our ability to adjust (and adjust again during games) and the players are executing it are great signs for the future of the season.
3) The national disrespect is fueling up the Roy Bus with some grade A Racing fuel? Honestly, I love it and I hope it continues b/c if we get into the Playoffs, I feel like we're going to open a can on somebody.

Still pretty concerned about the QB consistency. Hopefully things work themselves out and we’ve got ourselves another NC.

DJ has been the most consistent player on our team for the entire year until this game…if he struggles going forward or has one or two more games like this past then yeah we have a qb consistency problem…if he plays the rest of the year the way he played the first 7 games then we have one of the best qb’s in the country …it’s really that simple…time will tell!!!

The other consideration it is we have had a few close games this year against teams that have much less talent than we do, and that we’ve underachieved this far, including benching our starting QB in the last game and putting in a true freshman QB in his place in order to try to win.
I like your rationale better.

The real secret is learning how and being able to win different ways when things don’t go as planned. Resiliency and knowing how to win is an unsung trait that is crucial in the playoffs. We didn’t have it in 2019 against LSU or in 2020 against OSU.
We have the D strength now to be elite and the WR play is improving right before our eyes. DJ needs to get more determined and the play calling needs to put him in more pocket passer type calls. If you need the option of QB runs, sprinkle in Cade some, but with our RBs, I think that should be based on the other team’s D tendencies. Take what the other team gives you. There are ways to enable DJ to hurt a team other than designed QB runs. A few here and there maybe, but not as much as they are doing it now.
Our best game has yet to be played, but we are getting things better and better while also learning how to win in spite of ourselves!

My impression is that we are lacking an edge/nastiness/butt kicker on the team. Some guys that ratchet it up when a team gets down and they want to bury them. Lots of talent for sure, but need to see more players that act as if every play is their last. That would be playing to the standard of Wilkins, Lawson, Boulware, etc.

Well, I'm not there yet. 8 games in, and back to back 6 pt. wins, is an indication that we need to open up this play book. But you are right in the sense we've looked fairly basic on the year in our sets and play calls. If we come out after an open date looking the same, I think that is a sign the coaches don't think the personnel can handle any more bells/whistles.

This felt like the case 3 weeks ago. Florida State was a bad regression. Syracuse was a bad regression.

I see my team like my favorite scene one of my favorite Sean Connery movies... with KJ Henry as the Great Raisuli (Connery) and so I guess Shipley gets to be Candace Bergman. Just when there seems to be no hope...

We have played the 3 best teams on our schedule so I don't buy the holding back on defense. What people fail to accept is that other teams have good players too. The Portal has changed the game and I just don't think we will dominate teams the way fans think we should.
Our last 4 games scare me because we cannot coast and win any of them. Notre Dame has great athletes and I hope Nov 5 is not the game they put it all together. Louisville and Miami are dangerous because of their speed and just like every team we play, they would kill to beat us. I know this is not a popular thought but South Carolina is not great but is a better team than last year. We can and should win all 4 of the final games but we will have to play well.
The game we absolutely have no margin for error will the ACC Championship game against Carolina. The baby blue QB is a stud and they can score from any place on the field so we have to score too.
If we go 5-0 the rest of the way and make the Playoffs, it is a whole new story. If we could go play either Georgia, Ohio State, Michigan, Tennessee or TCU and win will be determined by how we play and improve over the last 5 games. We will be underdogs but that has been a good thing in the past.

us to a one-score game. Anything can happen in a game like that. One bizarre turnover or onside kick or whatever... you never do that on purpose. That's nuts. If we're really doing that, then we've lucked up even more than I thought. Better start adding some chocolate into that vanilla swirl...

All we can do is our utmost to make sure Cade is ready and let the chips fall where they may. It feels to me like our ceiling is high But we're up to our ankles in quicksand. We may not win it all this year but we are close. Dabo will win several more before he leaves. I'm just enjoying the ride. We have reached an unprecedented level of success that ten years or so ago I would have argued we will never accomplish. Ain't it swell to be elite

Yeah they can make a run. But they'll have to find another gear to bring down Ohio State in the big game.

I had a coach who said he'd rather win boring than lose flashy. Maybe there's something to it. I say maybe because we mostly lost boring.

Not really. We're a good, not elite, team with good, not elite playmakers on offense and good, not elite, defensive coaching. Yes, the 2015-2019 teams sometimes had some early struggles, but there were also times when you watched that team where they looked #### near unbeatable. We've had all the same early struggles this year without the periods of looking #### near unbeatable. We'll probably win out, probably win the conference, and probably get absolutely smoked against a truly elite team in the playoffs. Pretending this team has characteristics it doesn't have aren't going to make them appear.

Georgia currently boasts a 46 point win over a top 10 team. Ohio State's offense has looked absolutely unstoppable for 7 weeks thus far, including absolutely dismantling a top 5 Iowa defense. Michigan had a struggle against Maryland (probably a roughly equivalent team to Syracuse) but absolutely slaughtered Penn State with a rushing attack that looked completely unstoppable.
Has any team been without flaw? No, every team has looked flawed at some point. Have there been teams that have shown that "unbeatable" type play that marks elite teams? Absolutely - and we haven't been one of them. We've been close a couple times. We almost blew the NC State game wide open in a way that would have matched the unbeatable kind of play we've seen at times from the other top 5 teams, but instead we dropped a pass and missed a field goal. We almost did against FSU. But instead we went into a shell and made what should have been a 30 point win a 6 point win. Every other top 5 team has had struggles, the difference is every other top 5 team has also had highs that dramatically eclipse ours.

Totally agree. Who is elite? No doubt if Clemson played against a top 5 team they will be the underdog. There's still a lot of room for improvement for this team. I don't see that with the other top teams. Hopefully they keep improving and make the playoffs playing their best football.
