I prefer just eating healthier and exercising. It's something that you can consistently do.

At 45 - who has time to exercise 3 hours a day ?
Hartins - good grief - he has to exercise 23 hours a day, eats chicken wings for an hour, sleeps an hour and then gets back up to do it all over again.

And cholesterol shoot through the roof

For serious, a few years ago I was at the grocery store waiting in line behind some obese dude buying 20 packages of hot dogs. He told the cashier he was on a no carb diet.

(and lost weight) by eating low carb - not necessarily hot dogs, mind you, but lots of eggs, bacon, and red meat almost every day, along with lots of non-starchy veggies.

avoid carbs at all costs, they are sugars that are converted into fat once they hit your blood stream. bread, pasta, sodas, rice, wheat, or anything processed all should be avoided. Our body is not meant to digest these foods. You are getting calories, but are nutritionally staving yourself
Get a juicer and do a ten day cleanse, you will lose 5-10 pounds on the spot, your skin will clear, you will sleep better, and have more energy. Carrots, Kale, lemons, celery, cilantro, and apples are all good cleansing foods and should be a part of your regular diet. Juicing limits the strain on your digestive track and nourishes your cells in 15 minutes. It also aides in detoxing your liver and GI. Drinking green tea should also be a great way to replace coffee or sodas.
and your attitude should not be cant. Do not say I cant eat this any more or you will fail at your diet. Say I can eat this, but I do not want to . Also, instead of limiting your food choices, add the healthy ones and eventually they will replace the bad choices, your body knows what it wants and you will find yourself craving healthier food over unhealthy in time.
And keep this in mind, food kills 10x as many people per year than all drugs combined.

Japaneses eat tons of fresh fish and seaweed. They also do not eat the same bleached rice we do.

nothing wrong with rice whatsoever, it just does not have a lot of nutrition, just calories. And of course is high in carbs. But compared to potato chips, bread, or fried foods, can be seen as reasonably healthy.

Mostly solid opinion

I always cringe when I hear the word "cleanse" in a helth discussion.
If you mean cleanse as in "it helps you learn to eat differently" then I can see the merit, but the whole "detoxification" train of thought is bunk.
But otherwise primarily solid advice. Though there is more research coming out that seems to actually suggest that a no-carb diet may have some unforeseen negative helth effects. Many health professionals are steering more folks to a solid, well managed, low card diet full of a variety of foods.

There is no magic wand. It's calories in and calories out for the most part. Reduce calories in and increase calories out and you lose weight. The problem with carbs is they are often calorie dense foods you can consume a large amount of.

but the whole "detoxification" train of thought is bunk.
you would be completely wrong in that. Most people are walking around with heavy metals and toxins stored up from years of bad diet, and in women, using cosmetics. They are not water soluble and can not be sweated or pissed out, they stay in your fat cells.. . When we start losing weight and burning fat, it can make you feel sick. It is important to eat foods that help cleanse your body if you are going to diet. Essentially anything with chlorophyll is a good place to start, but I mentioned what they are above.

We simply disagree

From everything I've read and heard, which is not minor and is, as best I can tell, backed up scientific peer-reviewed studies the detox thing is pseudo-science.
I'm sure you disagree. So be it.

I can't speak to what a vast majority think
Feb 18, 2014, 4:14 PM

I can only say that in the studies I've sought and read, I see time and time again the idea that detoxification does little to nothing of any actual effect.
Eat well. Eat whole foods. Fruits and vegetable. Be active. Don't overeat fats and sugars.
That is what, time and again, I am reading from these studies.
But again, we disagree. SO be it.

I am talking about things like iron, mercury, medications, cosmetics, household cleaners, etc. These things are not water soluable and can not easily be removed, thus stored in your fat cells the same way THC is. Your body will remove them on its own over time, but some foods have been PROVEN to help in this process.
If you disagree that Iron and Mercury build up in your system, then by all means down a jar of Flintstones vitamins and eat canned tuna every day for a month and see how you feel.

No soda , candy or carbo fillef foods ( ie bread , potatoes, rice and anything with two or more ingredients that you do not recognize). Exercise every other day for one Hour. Dieting the way you like

And exercising consistently is primarily the right thing to do. Remember that everything has pros and cons ...so do what you feel is best for your body (internally is as important as externally ) and pray your kids don't decide to "come out " and announce they are gamecock lovers.

The healthiest diet you can go on is a diabetic diet. I am not diabetic but started eating like one last summer and lost 27 pounds very quickly. Each year I take tests at my annual physical that measure every component of my body chemistry. Every single element was "normal" at my November checkup. Two other friends tried this approach with similar results.
