Anybdy gave any thought to our kicking this year?

Are we going to do as good as we did last year or is it going to be like we used too? I for one hope we set a new standard last year and are able to keep it up!
GO TIGERS!!!

I imagine the freshman has a leg on him. He's certainly big enough to kick the crap out of a ball...let's just hope he can kick it straight.

thanks for clarifying me on something I honestly knew nothing about. I just figured he was tall, therefore he would create a longer arc in his kicking motion which would in turn give him the extra length needed to create speed. Seemed logical enough to me that being tall would allow one to kick it further....plus he could, "put his weight into it". Obviously I don't claim to know anything about the kicking aspect of football.

The key to distance is leg strength.

Kickers like Janikowski and Bironas don't have quick legs, they have thick, bulky legs and they absolutely bomb kicks. In fact as more and more NFL teams are consistently hitting 50+ yard FGs it seems that the sheer size of kickers is growing every year.
I found an article from a few years ago talking about this. I would certainly agree that leg speed helps your distance and if you don't want to get stronger you can help distance with leg speed, but if you really want to build distance, ideally you want you leg to become a tree trunk! Here's an excerpt of the article asking why balls are being kicked further, I tend to agree with it:
"Perhaps kickers and punters are more athletic -- bigger and stronger. The scrawny European import/former soccer player kicker, once in vogue, now is a thing of the past."

to the Lexington County CU club (last night) and said the kicking game is solid. Catman hit one 60 yards and it went about 70. With the new rules on kickoffs, hopefully we kick all of them out of the end zone.

It should go 5 yards deeper this year - so we'll get closer. Now if they would just move the KO up to the 50 yard line...

ing. catman, benton and lakip can more than handle fieldgoals and kick-offs. benton and pinion will do fine punting.zimmerman was imo, the best we have had punting since hatcher, and pinion has the potential to do the same, from everything i have seen/read about him.

summer and Benton appears to be hitting 50+ yard attempts with ease....I think we're in better shape than last year. Still think Pinion needs to improve his leg speed if he wants to start at punter. Other than that, we're fine and have Lakip coming on strong for next year.

Last year, Pinion had 17 punts inside the 20 and 37 of 50 KO's were TB's.
